“Yeah, yeah. Let’s go to bed. I really don’t want to fall asleep while thinking about you rolling around with a Golem or helhound.”
Don’t talk about helhounds,Billy snarled.
Ellea let out a nervous laugh at the swift change in mood. Billy’s face softened, and the two got snuggled into bed.

Fears evolve and grow, welcoming another,
One whose power will balance yours in destruction.
You feed his fire as he feeds your chaos. You will turn worlds upside down.
Fears evolve and grow, welcoming another.
You will turn worlds upside down.
Ellea woke with a gasp. A sheen of sweat coated her body. It’s just that old bird planting nonsense into my head, she thought, sliding out of bed for a drink of water. As she disappeared into the bathroom, Billy followed, her paws padding lightly on the tile.
This is getting out of control. You can only go so many nights with no sleep before you turn into a real crazy person.
“It was just a…” She sighed. She couldn’t keep calling it a nightmare; it was more than that. “Go back to bed, I will be there in a minute.”
Ellea turned the faucet on, filling a glass of water and gulping it down. Her heart slowly came down to a normal pace. She bent over the sink and splashed water on her face.
I don’t know why you think you can lie to me. We need to do something,Billy said in a worried tone that rang.
“I do things, lots of things,” Ellea said, drying her face with a towel.
Well, they aren’t working. I think things are getting worse.
“You are being dramatic.” Ellea groaned.
What was it this time? Something new or the same thing?Billy asked, her tone clipped.
“It was Sybil. That crazy old witch got in my head and it’s messing with me.” She turned, crossing her arms over her chest.
Do you think it was a real premonition?Billy asked, her tone kinder.
“Real, yes,” Ellea said with a sigh. “But she said there was someone else, and I’m wondering if she is crazy or if this is wholly real.”
I don’t think we could find out. Unless…
“Unless I look into it on my own?” She shouldn’t. But she needed answers.
Maybe. But last time you looked into your own future, I found you broken by the edge of a lake,Billy said sadly.
“Well, I am not eight anymore. What’s the worst that could happen?” Ellea asked.
I will get the salt.Billy trotted off.
Ellea headed out of her room to where candles floated around the salt circle Billy was creating. It was larger than normal, as if Billy planned on being in there with her. The beast tossed her head, throwing the empty salt container in the corner.
Ready, she said, stepping over the line of salt.
“I don’t think you should be in there with me.” Ellea chewed on her lip, nervous about what was about to happen. The salt could only keep them so safe. “I don’t know what my powers will do.”
