It took her a moment to say the words that had been circling her mind. “He claimed it was the only way.”
“I know what he claimed,” he snapped.
Azzy crossed his arms over his chest and pinched the bridge of his nose. He looked tired, and she would bet her favorite book he’d been searching the castle and grounds with the guards.
“I should have killed him when he arrived,” he added.
“You promised that to me,” Ellea said sweetly.
“That I did, darling,” he said, reaching to hold her by the shoulder. “Your magic seems strong, and after only two days’ rest?”
“I feel fine,” she said, grasping his warm hand.
“I’m sure you keep telling yourself that, along with everyone else,” he said, giving her a small smile before stepping away to sit behind his desk. “I spoke with Rosier, and if you’re up for it, you two are going to work on some training I suggested. I’m going to do my own research on what we’ve discovered.”
“I’m up for it if he is.”
“Yeah, I don’t mind telling you that my son is a little upset you held out longer than him.” Azzy smirked.
Ellea pressed her lips together, toying with a small black book on Azzy’s desk. He pulled it away and it tucked it into his drawer.
“I’ll see you for dinner,” he said, dismissing her.
“No guards?”
“Oh, there will be guards, and don’t bother pouting about it,” he said, leaning back in his chair and shooing her away with a flick of his wrist. “I won’t have the future of my kingdom being jeopardized because she likes to walk and read.”
“There weren’t guards before.”
“That was before one of them could escape out of Hel.” He cocked a brow at her. “Don’t be late for dinner.”
He flicked his wrist toward the door again. She wanted to stick her tongue out at him, but as she left the safety of his study, she couldn’t help but feel a little shaken. Pushing it down, she went to hunt down her demon, two guards trailing behind her.

Rosier
Ellea glared at him as she hung upside down. Her face was flushed, and the cutest little vein began showing at her temple. He was glad his father had suggested trying to keep her restrained, unable to move or fight. It wasn’t something they had worked on before. Until they figured out what Cato had done to stop time, his shadows were the closest way to replicate it.
Anger quickly replaced the humor on his tiny princess’ face. She glared at him as she turned slowly away. He’d felt so close to losing her again a few days ago, so close to seeing the world burn if anything harmed her. They needed to do better, plan better. He was almost tempted to be her backup instead of Devon, but he worried about his manhood if he even thought about suggesting that. He didn’t want to interfere with the relationship they were building, the bond they had. So he would keep training her.
“Are you even trying?” Ros asked.
“No, I’m trying to figure out if this is some sick demon game or if we are actually working toward something,” she grumbled.
He breathed a little better, hearing her bratty remark. His cock stirred at the thought of sick demon games and tying her up.
“The longer you think about it, the more blood is going to rush to your head. You’re going to pass out,” he scolded, scolding himself too as his mind wandered to thinking of her flushed skin. “I told you, we need to see if—”
“I know,” she hissed. “Fine, I’ll play your stupid game. I thought there would be swords and a fighting ring. Not some non-fun bondage in our bedroom.”
She continued to grumble as she tried moving her arms. A wave of electricity danced across her skin, but Ros had grown used to it and continued a firm hold. They had actually added that to his training, learning how to hold off Cato. Never again would the man stop him from protecting Ellea.
“Ros,” she breathed. “I’m getting dizzy.”
“Then try harder.”
He really hated this, especially after hearing her confession this morning. She rolled her eyes before taking a breath and continuing to try to free herself. Her magic crackled around them, not only across her skin, and his shadows loosened. He reinforced them, gritting his teeth a little, and they held strong again.
