“No, this is the best gift ever.”

“Even if it’s a wedding gift?”

“Tell me now, Reon.”

“I like it when you say my name like that, all demanding and mean.” I lean in and bite her ear through the mask. “Our date on the rooftop, I slipped something into your drink, and then I bribed a priest to marry us. You signed on the dotted line that night. It was that easy.” Pulling back, I lay my hand on the necklace she still wears. Mine.

“Why?” she asks.

“I had a bad feeling about the Hunt, and I did not trust Soren since I’d broken it off with Maya. To save face, I decided to make things easier by marrying you. Little did I know you were out here, and that random decision was the best one I had ever made.” She lifts her mask and stares up at me.

“That was not a random decision. You drugged me and made me marry you without my consent.” She scoffs at me.

“As soon as the marriage was finalized, I was a gentleman, despite you groping me all the way home, and we know I’m a sucker for all things you, so I want it noted how I restrained myself from your advances.”

“I was drugged, you dick.”

“That’s beside the point,” I smirk at her. “I might add, as well, that I have evidence of our marriage, photos. I took you home, changed you, and put you in bed.” Before she can say anything else, I also tell her, “Technically, you own half of everything I own… no prenup.”

She smirks as she pulls the mask back down. “Maybe I’ll take everything you have. My first marriage taught me to do that.” She laughs, then sprints off into the forest. I chase after her. At first, I lose sight of her but quickly find her by her footprints. Sliding my mask on, I sneak up behind her as she decides which way to go. Her ass screams at me to grab it.

“Left,” I whisper in her ear.

She raises a brow at me from over her shoulder. “How do you know?”

“I know these woods,” I remind her, and she goes left.

The axe is heavy in my hand as I follow close behind her. There is no way Deven can sneak up to hurt her. She will never hurt like that again.

Ever.

The sounds of wildlife are the only things we hear until the crunching of quick footsteps makes it to our ears.

“Run, you little bitch,” she says in a low voice, aiming it in the direction I knew Deven would be running toward as she ties her hair back up. “Give me the axe.” She holds out her hand, and I hold it up.

“Say, please, husband,” I tease her. She drops her hand, steps up to me, and with a move so fast I didn’t see it coming, cups my cock through my pants.

“Husband, give me the fucking axe.” She squeezes a little harder, and I hold it out to her.

“Of course, wife. Anything for you.” She releases my cock, takes the axe, and starts running the same way Deven went. Following behind them like a proud husband, I hear the first scream, loud and echoing through the forest. When I reach them, I find Deven on the ground, the axe blade embedded in his calf muscle. She pulls it out as I near, and his leg bleeds heavily.

“Caterpillar, it’s really beautiful watching you blossom,” I praise.

“When will you call me butterfly?” she asks me as Deven screams. His screaming and bleeding have no effect on her. Instead, it appears to egg her on.

“I honestly don’t think I ever will. To me, you will always be my caterpillar, but you’ve grown your wings.”

“You try to be romantic, but caterpillars are disgusting.” She shakes her head as Deven tries to army crawl away from us. He won’t get far, not with that leg.

“Not to me. They serve a purpose,” I tell her.

“Yeah, to eat and grow,” she says, her nose scrunching up.

Deven’s cries are still there in the background.

“Then they morph into a butterfly to find their mate. You are lucky, Caterpillar. You found me early, so no need to look for your mate any longer.”

“So, does that mean you’ll dance for me?” I can sense the smile behind her mask.
