He smirked. “She’s about to tell you all the shit she didn’t like about the first three, then compare them to this one to justify her decision, but the decision was made before we pulled up. I knew as soon as she looked at the pictures of this one on the site that it’s what she wanted.”
Not even two seconds later, Oni stepped into the hallway with her brows pinched. “Babe, the main room at the first house was kinda small compared to this one, wasn’t it?”
“About the same, O,” he stated nonchalantly.
She shook her head. “I don’t think so. Maybe it’s the layout.” She turned to me. “Do you think this one is larger than the other three? And I feel like those didn’t have enough yard for our son to play in. It was more pool than grass.”
She walked up to Krew and hugged his waist. “I like the other ones but I think this one has more of what we wanted.”
“I didn’t want shit. This was all your idea, O. I’m good with whatever you decide.” His tone was laced with amusement and she smiled.
“But do you like this one, because if not…”
“I like the basement of the second one. Isn’t that the one with the indoor court? That shit will be sweet for when Navy’s at the house.”
I grinned when Oni pouted. “This one has a court too.”
Krew chuckled. “Pick what you want, O. Long as you like that shit I’m cool.”
She had her eyes on me again. “How soon can we put an offer in?”
“Um, I can work on the contract as soon as we’re done and have it sent over in a couple hours if that’s what you want.”
“Yes, let’s do that.” She smiled then stepped away from her husband. “I’m going to look at the yard one more time.”
“Aight, do your thing.”
When she walked away, Krew turned to me. “I told you I know my wife. List price is four point eight. Are there any offers on this one?”
“Not yet. It just hit the market two weeks ago.”
“Aight, offer five. I’m not trying to deal with the fallout if she can’t get this damn house.”
He followed the path Oni had just taken and I did a silent scream and a happy dance. Three percent commission was about to grant me a hundred and fifty thousand on top of what I made from the house Kove purchased.
After Oni took multiple pictures and videos because, according to her, the ones online didn’t do it justice, she and Krew left the house and I promised to have the contract to them before the end of business today. Kove didn’t say what time he would be coming to get me, only that he would be done with practice by three. It was just after one so I had time to work on it when I got home. I moved through the house, shut off all the lights, checked the doors, and let myself out, mentally inventorying the ingredients I had at home.
I placed a delivery order for The Marketplace that would arrive by the time I made the thirty minute drive to my apartment. I planned on whipping up a batch of s’mores from a new recipe I wanted to try to celebrate my sale while I worked on the contract, because today definitely deserved a celebratory baking session.
Chapter 17
Kove
I satin my car feeling the ache in my muscles from practice. I had not a damn clue why the hell my coaches thought one on one with a focus on shooting then a full court practice with the team was a good idea, but that was exactly how the last four hours played out.
My gotdamn arms were sore as hell, my legs felt heavy as shit from all the damn running I had to do to keep up, and my back was aching like a muthafucker. Jabari and Meyer were both in their early thirties but them niggas could run that damn ball. I had to work to keep up and I was at least five years younger than both.
I held my own though. They gave me my props and Coach even pulled me to the side before I left to let me know if I kept showing up like I did today, I could make the starting five. That was damn sure motivation to put in work, because with the way I was feeling right now, I was close to saying fuck all this shit. My body was screaming at me to crawl up under the bed and stay there until I had to hit the court again.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t happening and the reminder was flashing across my screen. I looked at Xiah’s building where Ihad been parked for the past ten minutes but too damn tired to move then lifted my phone to answer my brother’s call.
“What’s good, Kove? You still coming through, right?” he asked as soon as I had him on speaker.
“Yeah, I’ll be there. I’m heading that way in a minute. I have a stop to make first.”
To collect the woman I was about to bring home to see how she fit into that part of my life. Royals was what my world looked like now but D-Ville was the foundation of what made me the man I am. If she couldn’t navigate both, wasn’t no way this shit would last. I needed to see that in real time and I also needed the people who knew me best to tell me if I was making the right decision by giving Xiah access. I didn’t want my thoughts clouded by good pussy. My mind might have been second guessing what I was doing but every other part of my being knew she was supposed to be mine.
“Aight nigga, be safe.”
