I give the Dream Thief a suggestive look.

“I have no idea,” he replies.

As if in answer, a crystal-clear beam of light starts to glow softly in the distance. Lucere turns that way. “Is this the one?”

The closer we get to it, the more the light builds until it looks like a burning star radiating in the distance.

“Here it is,” Lucere whispers, lifting it down from the shelf. She flinches as if it’s hot, and the globe crashes to the floor, glass spewing everywhere as the prophecy escapes.

A voice cries out in the old tongue:

“One queen will rise;

One queen will fall.

One queen will anchor;

Three queens in all.

One queen;

With fire in her veins,

And fury in her heart.

One queen;

With midnight in her soul,

And vengeance carved in her bones.

One queen;

With shadows whispering in her dreams,

And summer in her blood.

Three dark queens to bring him down;

Three dark queens to burn him out.

Three dark queens to shatter the shadowlands.

Three dark queens to destroy the kingdoms of the sun.

One queen to crown herself,

With Death by her side.

One queen bleeding raw,

Her heart soon to fall.

And one queen in blooming,

The key to it all.

From darkness will she rise;
