“Europe? No. I’m not.” With all the strength I can muster, I struggle to free myself before I shatter into tiny, broken pieces.
Diego hauls me up and inside the helicopter then pins my body between him and the door shutting behind us.
The engine starts, and Diego relaxes enough for me to attack. A sharp elbow into his side, and I’m halfway across his lap with the door flung open before I’m lifted back inside.
The helicopter begins to lift.
No. Dios, no.
I blink back tears and dive for the window, searching the earth below until I findhim.
Arms folded, standing next to the car, grimly watching my departure.
The only man I’ll ever love, growing tinier, more distant.
Until he’s gone.
