“Why, you’re always inside my fucking head. Every fucking move I make, you’re there. Those big, beautiful blue, fuck-me eyes staring back at me. I can’t get you out of my fucking head.” His teeth smash together. His jaw jumps and clenches, every molecule inside his body tensing up at his confession.

I tilt my head as best I can, staring up at him still. “What’re you trying to say?”

My finger runs the distance of his jaw, scraping along his day-old stubble. Every tense muscle in his body relaxes under my touch. I take my chances. Bravely going where I’m assuming no other woman has gone before. I run my fingers through his locks, pulling the ends between my fingers. He grasps my jaw with his enormous hands, pulling me into him. It’s so intimate, especially for him. I’ve never pictured Carter Cunningham having a nice bone in his body. But maybe society has carved him like this.

“Exactly what I fucking said,” he growls again. Brushing his lips against mine, but he’s fighting it again, fighting his wants.

“What if I said I think about you, too? That kiss? Your lips.” I pull him into me more, not leaving an inch between us.

The darkness resting beneath the surface of Carter calls to me. His soul screams out for me to help him, to be with him, and begs me to respond. So, I do. He’s a mean man, yes. Scary—by all means. But I also want to make him mine. I may have the other three, but Carter completes this.

“Then I’d say you’re a stupid fucking bitch.” He replies as coldly as he can, but he can’t fool me with that fake bite to his tone.

“Then I’m a stupid fucking bitch,” I reply right away, noticing the fire brewing behind his eyes. He’s about to explode. “So just kiss me already.” He slams his eyelids shut, body shuddering against mine.

“Fuck it,” he growls, slamming his lips into mine.

The cool metal of his tongue piece wildly grazes against my tongue. Sending all kinds of wrong sensations slithering down my body. His passions wrap me in a blanket as he takes my mouth. His hand wanders down my body, grasping my breast, covering it entirely with his large hand. He’s not like my boys—oh fuck. I pull away, turning my cheek, breathing hard. But he stays there, panting against me, running his thumb over my hard nipple.

“Why did you bring me in here?” I pant as his hand slips lower and lower, gliding over my leggings. I suck in a breath, nearly falling over when his finger hits my clit through my clothes, and the feral growl that emanates from his throat almost makes me come right then and there.

“You’re fucking soaked for me, aren’t you, Sweetheart?” He nips at my earlobe, burying his face in my neck.

“Yes,” I moan, as his finger still works me through my clothes. But I must focus. Boyfriends. I have them. They’ll be worried. I haven’t checked in yet. Almost right on cue, my phone buzzes against my skin, bringing me back from the brink of whatever the fuck this is.

“Stop, stop,” I say, grabbing his wrist.

He groans, stopping his movements, and licks across my neck. “Why the fuck should I?” He whispers in my ear, licking inside it. Twirling his tongue, letting it dance against my flesh. Yes—why should he stop? Everything he’s doing feels fantastic… And—

“Because,” I whisper, bringing his face to mine. “You brought me here for a reason, right?” There has to be some reason he pulled me into this closet. I hadn’t had time to stop and think about it yet. He stops everything with ragged breaths, and a heaving chest.

And those eyes.

Those beautiful, fired-up, brown eyes stare back at me. “Don’t go to the fucking pep rally,” he says, his tone looser than before.

I tilt my head. “Why?” I ask, furrowing my brows.

“You’ve been set up, Sweetheart.” He murmurs, making my heart drop into my stomach. Set up?

“By who?”

He shakes his head, cupping my cheeks in his enormous hands. “No idea, but I know it was planned.”

“Show me? I’m assuming Alpha texted you about it.” He grins at that, nodding his head, and hands me over his phone.

I frown. “No wonder I haven’t been able to get anything lately.” He unlocks it for me, guiding me toward the messages.

“Yeah, after someone, and I wonder who the fuck that could be, got into Oscar’s. They ordered us to get new phones.” He swipes more and finally brings up the message.

Alpha:

Prepare. The rabbit is going down. Today. Assembly. Hold back the others. Outside source.

Carter (Beta):

Yes, Alpha.

I swallow hard. “Outside source?” I ask, looking up into his worry-filled eyes.
