“Did you get your period, or did I hurt you last night?” I ask her.

Lifting her hair with the back of her arm before pushing it back with her hand, I watch as she widens her eyes and says, “What?”

“There’s blood on the sheets and your arse cheek. Did I hurt you last night?”

Obviously still half asleep, I help her out with what I’m saying by lifting the doona and watch as she looks over her shoulder at the sheet and her own arse.

I’d fucked her from behind last night, and it was highly likely I did get a little rough. We had an empty house, Ren was vocal, which tends to make me ride her harder, and I’m wondering now if maybe I was a little too hard.

“Oh, shit,” she says before turning and sitting up. I notice she winces as she does.

“What?” I instantly question. “Did I hurt you? Don’t fucking make out and lie . . .”

“No, no. It’s not that.”

“Then what? Period? I thought you said you didn’t have them, your coil thing stopped them?”

“Yeah, they do . . .” she trails off.

“And . . .?” I encourage. She huffs.

“Can I just wake up and have a sip of my coffee?” she snaps. I pass her mug, and take a sip from my own, giving her a minute to get her shit together.

“You gonna talk to me?”

“You gonna calm your fucking farm?”

“Not until you explain why there’s blood in the bed I’m not, no.”

She blows out a long breath before staring at the wall with the telly opposite the bed.

“Telly’s not on, you won’t find your answers there.”

She blinks slowly as she turns her head back towards me and I know I’ve pushed her a little too far for this time of day.

“If you don’t shut your mouth, you’ll be wearing this coffee over your head, and walking with this mug shoved up your arse.”

I shrug, not wanting to argue but needing answers.

“I think my IUD might need changing,” she finally says. I shake my head, having no idea on the subject.

“Do you bleed when that happens then?”

“Well, it hasn’t in the past, but I’ve been getting really bad cramps like I’m about to get a period . . .”

“Wait, that was weeks ago. When we went to my dad’s for his birthday, you had spotting and cramps then . . .”

I get another sigh and watch as she licks her lips.

“Yeah, I meant to go to the doctors, but a lot’s happened, Gabe.”

“So, you just left it? Where’s your phone? Call your doctor now, you get an appointment, and you find out what’s going on, do itnow.”

“Gabe . . .”

I stand and start looking for her phone, which is actually right beside where I just set my coffee mug down.

I hand it to her.
