She whipped around, fury shaking her hands. “Get the fuck out. All of you.” She turned back to Carlos and shoved his chest, fuming when he didn’t move an inch. “You have some nerve.”
He raised an eyebrow saying nothing. The room was silent as everyone except Carlos and Derrick cleared out.
She took a deep breath, reigning in her temper, fighting the power running up and down her skin. It was a foreign power, and it was hard to control. “How dare you have me followed? Do you not trust me with your daughter? I was scared as hell thinking someone was following me to kill me, when this whole time it was you. How long have you been following me?”
He continued to stare and her anger ratcheted up another notch. She stabbed her finger at his chest. “Answer me!”
He stared, his eyes changing, his panther fighting with him to come forward. She should’ve been alarmed, but her heart was still drumming, adrenaline and anger flooding her body.
She continued her rant, ignoring the snarls rumbling his chest. “You put us all in danger by not telling me. What if I had called the police? What if I had gotten us hurt or killed trying to avoid him? He ran a red light behind me, what if he had run into someone? You have no excuse for scaring me like that.”
She cursed the tears flowing down her face. She hadn’t been this mad in years. She’s spent a good portion of her marriage with a condescending husband who didn’t trust her to do anything. Greg thought her flighty and incapable of complex thought. He constantly ‘checked on her’ and came behind her making sure things were done to his liking. She wouldn’t put herself in that position again.
She knew it was wrong to bring that residual resentment into her argument with Carlos, but it was baggage she hadn’t realized she was carrying. On top of that, some kind of power was surging in her body, making her fury hard to contain. She covered her eyes and took deep breaths to calm herself.
He stepped forward and grabbed her wrists, uncovering her eyes. “I’m sorry, you’re right. I got intel from one of my enforcers and panicked, it was instinct to protect my mate and children, but I still should’ve called you. I’ve been on edge and I did the first thing that came to mind.”
She took another shuddering breath, her heart finally slowing. She couldn’t tell if he was being truthful or not, but the apology deflated her anger. The silence of the room wrapped around her and she realized what she’d done. How she’d talked to him in front of his enforcers...
She’d even put her hands on him.
No wonder his eyes were changing, his panther had to be riled.
Her face drained of blood. “Oh my God, I can’t believe I just did that.”
Carlos inclined his head, a cat like gesture that really showed her how close his panther was to the surface. What had she been thinking? She hadn’t been thinking, and now, she could only wait to see what the Felix would do.
Savannah’s eyes were wide with panic a moment before she doused it. Meanwhile, his cat prowled his body, on edge and ready to claim its mate. Alpha power infused his body, and the teeth in his mouth grew longer. The fact that their mate had come in and controlled a room full of dangerous cats, was riling his panther. Savannah hadn’t even flinched as she stared them down. Her power and anger was not challenged, the enforcers didn’t look to him before they left.
Hell, he’d felt her power from the elevator. The meeting he was holding had paused as her power filled the whole floor. She was getting stronger, and he didn’t think she realized it. He’d felt a hint of it the other night when the two of them argued.
He hid a triumphant smile. “You have every right to be upset with me, especially if you thought the children were in danger.”
He stepped closer, letting his panther a little off the leash. Answering power flared from her and Derrick growled softly behind her. She whipped her head around to his friend. The Beta’s cat was right on the surface, his eyes flashing.
Distracting them both, he tugged gently on her arm. “I’m sorry for worrying you.”
She nodded absently, running a shaking hand across her face.
He closed the distance between them. “I couldn’t be prouder and more turned on by the way you entered the room, though. Now that you’ve come here and exerted your power and influence, I know you can handle both of your mates.”
She gaped at him. Panic flared in her eyes and she looked between the two of them, taking a step back.
“Tsk Tsk, no use in hiding now, mate.” Still, he let her have a little distance, not wanting to push just yet. “No backing down. You’ve already shown the strength. That was your worry, no? That you couldn’t handle the two of us. And yet you walked in here, with your righteous anger and cleared a room full of my enforcers.”
“That’s not…I didn’t mean, that was unacceptable, I apologize.”
Derrick came up behind her and gripped her waist. “Don’t apologize, baby, he deserved it for scaring you. You have every right as our mate to check either one of us.”
She shook her head. “But I shouldn’t have talked to you like that in front of everyone.”
“Why not?” Derrick asked as he trailed a finger down her neck.
She sighed in pleasure and Carlos flexed his fingers in a fist, eager to touch her, but he knew he had to tread carefully. His mate was pissed still, even if she’d gotten better control of it. Her anger burned steady along the edge of their tentative connection. Derrick splayed his hand across her stomach and smiled over her shoulder.
Just a little longer, Carlos implored his panther. “I apologize, love.” He moved closer with his hands up in placation. “But my point still stands. You’re our mate, and you couldn’t have found a better way to prove it than you did just now.” He lowered his voice. “You know what that means?”
Her eyes widened, her breath quickened, though he couldn’t tell if it was from the circles Derrick was tracing on her stomach or her apprehension of what she’d done.
