Reign stopped what she was doing and looked up at him. “Those were her words? Rig?”
“That’s what she’s claiming. I need to know if it’s true.”
“We wouldn’t need to rig anything,” Reign shared. “If we did, you wouldn’t be the chief. Money wouldn’t be Money, and the streets wouldn’t be quiet. Endorse, sure.”
Uncle G picked up what she was putting down and chuckled. “When my wife said you were something. I didn’t see it. I get it.”
“So you’ll get that she needs to go away? As quietly as possible before Christmas.”
Uncle G licked his dry lips and hummed. “The trouble with powerful women behind powerful men is we can’t seem to tell you no. Because you see past everything we do.”
“We’re also unassuming. We’re smart. And we will do whatever needs to be done to protect our family.”
“I’ll make sure it’s handled. I need a big piece,” Uncle G replied to Reign’s comment.
She cut him a big slice and smiled. “Here you go.”
“Welcome to the family, Reign.”
“In breaking MFCV news,we are saddened to report that ADA Townsend was involved in a singular motor vehicle accident. According to reports, ADA Townsend was spotted leaving the Lieutenant Mayor’s Christmas Eve party. Witnesses say she was swerving minutes before the crash. MFPD confirms that Townsend was killed on impact.” The news played in the background as Markus walked out of the kitchen into the middleof the penthouse living room, where Reign was holding a skinny box in her hands.
“Another gift?” Markus asked, standing in the middle of their penthouse in his matching silk green pajama pants.
Reign stood in his shirt, chewing her lip as he shook it. “I think it’s the one you’ve wanted more than anything.”
Markus unwrapped it, finding a long gift box. They agreed to two gifts being that there wasn’t anything else she could think to get him, outside of two watches. He needed to go with his tailored suits she’d gotten him. Reign’s gift – a proposal while her legs were hooked around his shoulders and her nails digging into his shoulders. Then a tennis necklace was draped around her neck during breakfast.
“So every month, like a crazy woman since the scare, I’ve been taking a test. Because I’ve gotten into this mode of giving you what you want, because you love me so freely. I took that last night just to cool my nerves. If I had to guess, I’d say Thanksgiving night.”
Markus held the positive pregnancy test up, and a smile took over his face. “You for real?”
“I’m for real, I thought I was broken,” she admitted as he pulled her into an embrace.
“You were never broken. You just needed some mending. I did too. Thank you, Speechless.”
“You have to know I’m in this deep with you.”
Markus kissed her face. “You got to know I am too. I’d die for you.”
“I’ll kill for you.”
Markus peered out the window, watching the snow fall. “So I hear. You got your hands dirty?”
“No. It was clean.”
“I love the way you clear my path so I can see clearly,” he hummed.
Reign wrapped her arms around his. “I love the way you slay the dragons. We have a child coming. Are we ready?”
“Born ready. Everything we went through was for this right here. To stand at the top together.”
Markus picked up her ring-adorned finger and kissed it. “I’ll be the most wanted if that means keeping you.”
“Then it looks like we’ll be on the run together. Don’t ever let me go.”
“I won’t. Swear.”
“Hey, Money,”Fuego called over the music blasting through the lounge. “Somebody in VIP wants you and Svyn.”
