“Twelve thirty-five. You were knocked out.”

“Told you I don’t sleep. Haven’t slept like that in a long time.”

“Me neither. If you’re up to it, I want to take you somewhere today. That’s if you got time for me or you going to give me your ass to kiss?” he quipped.

“Depends if there is going to be a plus one, two, or three,” she shot back. “Or is it four now?”

“You got Motrin in there. I assumed it was for your headache, so I took one of those. I heard when you said you wasn’t fucking with me ‘cause of the pills.”

“Mm. Don’t base your journey on what I say. What I say doesn’t matter.”

“What you say seems to be the only thing that matters.”

“You full of shit, Markus.”

“Say what you want. Your smart mouth don’t change none of it. Eat. That’ll hold you over until we get to where we’re going.”

“So if I said no…”

“You weren’t going to,” he shared.

“And you know that how?”

“You called me Emilliano and moaned in my mouth. Shit different now.”

Reign rolled her eyes. “Are you going to tell me where we’re going so I know what to put on?”

“Dress warm. Wear flats. That’s all you need to know.”

“Sounds dangerous.”

“You’re never in danger with me. You should know that by now. Eat.”

“Please has got to find its way to your vocabulary,” she grumbled, picking up the plate.

He leaned over her and kissed her forehead. “Please eat. Please get dressed. Please be ready in an hour.”

“Too many demands. I just woke up and I’m thinking about putting you out.”

“Then I’ll have to break in this muhfucka. That ain’t what you want, Speechless.”

“Whatever you say, Money.”

“Don’t call me that shit. I ain’t Money when I’m with you.”

Reign looked up at him, finding the speck of darkness in his eyes.

“Money is a nigga I pray you never see.”

Choosing to lighten whatever moment this was between them, Reign questioned, “You pray?”

“I’m figuring out my way around,” he said, not biting her bait. “You?”

“Figuring out my way around,” she replied, stuffing her mouth full of grapes to keep from saying anything else.

Markus studied her with a scowl. “You trying to choke and get mouth-to-mouth?”

She frowned and said with a mouth full. “No.”
