“You’re kind of worrying me,” I said softly.
He didn’t speak. He just clutched me and shivered in my arms until eventually his trembling seemed to lessen. He lifted his head finally, and his eyes seemed to be his more usual color. The relief that flooded me was huge, and I touched his cheek.
“What was wrong with you?”
He blinked at me while looking confused, and then his face flushed as he looked down at the position we were in. He pulled away from me and rolled off the bed to his feet. His eyes were wide, and he raked a hand through his hair. “Jesus, we fucked?” He looked panicked. “Wefucked?”
I bit my lip, but I didn’t speak. I understood exactly what he was feeling, but I had no answers.
He covered his face, and then he dropped his arms loosely at his side. “I don’t understand.” He wrinkled his brow as memories seemed to come back to him. He closed his eyes. “Why would we—?”
“It was pure instinct. I don’t think we can make sense of this.”
He swallowed. “I don’t know what to say.”
“I… I know. But hopefully now whatever those feelings were are out of our system.” I tried to sound reassuring, but it wasn’t like I’d ever been in this strange situation before.
His gaze scanned my naked body, and he licked his lips. “I can’t wrap my head around this.”
I gave a gruff laugh. “I agree it’s confusing. But at least it felt good.”
“Like that’s the point?”
I shrugged.
“We can’t stand each other. Why would we even want to—” He shook his head.
“I’m sure it was just hormones and the full moon.”
“Yeah, I’ve never acted like that because of a damn full moon before.”
“Yeah. Me neither.”
His shoulders were stiff. “How are we supposed to just go on like nothing happened?”
I grimaced. “People fuck, Blade. It doesn’t have to be a big deal.”
“I don’t have sex with people I don’t like.”
“It happened. We need to get over it.”
He looked like he had a bad taste in his mouth. “Yeah, that’s not going to be easy.”
“Well, do you want to call your boss and tell him you want to bail on the assignment?”
His jaw clenched. “I’m not quitting.”
“Then you need to put this behind you.” I frowned. “I’m weirded out too. But I think I can move past it.”
He scrunched his face. “I guess.” He didn’t look like he was sure he could do it. He rubbed his belly, and the blood seemed to drain from his face. “I think I’m gonna be sick.” He bolted for the bathroom and slammed the door closed.
I could hear him retching in the bathroom, and I was a little guilty because I felt amazing. I felt powerful and strong. I wasn’t sure if he was sick from nerves because he was afraid I’d tell people what had happened, or just stress in general. He didn’t need to worry. It wasn’t the being with a man part that would keep me silent. It was the being withhimspecifically that I wouldn’t want to get out.
Bisexuality was common in wolves, but me fucking Blade Carr was not.
