“When he realized every word he’d said to her was being broadcast over our channels—” I slapped my knee and guffawed. “He was so embarrassed.”
“Right?” My boss laughed loudly. “Those were some of the worst pickup lines I’d ever heard an alpha use on an omega.”
I wiped the tears of laughter from my eyes. “Oh, yeah. The worst. He thinks he has such amazing game.” I exhaled and shook my head.
Darcy’s smile faded and he looked at his watch. “You should head out. I don’t want Wyatt standing out in the open because you aren’t there to welcome him.”
My frustration returned. “So there’s no way I can talk you out of this and get you to push him off on someone else?”
“Nope.” He shook his head.
I stood and headed toward the door, feeling pissed off.
“Keep him safe, Blade.”
“I’ll do my best,” I said tersely. I knew there was nothing worse than trying to guard a bodyguard. We all had our own way of doing shit, and we thought the way we did things was the right way. Plus, when you threw in how much Wyatt and I disliked each other, I knew this detail was going to suck big-time.
“I believe in you.” His voice dripped with sarcasm.
“Fuck off, boss.”
His loud laughter followed me out of the room.

When I walked up the short cobblestone path to my house, Wyatt was nowhere in sight. I scanned the small porch at the front of my home and frowned. Was he running late? I’d busted my ass to get here on time and he wasn’t even here yet? Typical. The world revolved around Wyatt Smith.
I unlocked my door, and when I walked into my living room, I found Wyatt sitting on my couch. I froze and glared at him. “You better not have broken a fucking window to get in here.” I deactivated the beeping alarm as I spoke.
He smirked as he ran a hand over his smooth dark hair. “You’re late.”
I looked at my watch again. “Bullshit. It’s exactly two.” I was pissed he’d apparently gotten around my alarm system. That was no easy task. I had a ton of redundant backups so that disabling one sector shouldn’t shut down the entire system.
“Your watch must be slow.”
“No. Yours is fast,” I snapped.
He shrugged. “Whatever.”
“How did you get in?”
He held up a small black device. “Our tech department just came up with this little baby. This disables any alarm for twenty seconds. All I had to do was figure out your alarm model, push this button, and then pick the lock on your back door.”
“What about the motion detector function?”
He snorted. “I put it on large-pet mode so it bypassed it.”
Sneaky asshole. “Did you break my door lock?” I growled.
“Relax. It’s fine. I’m not a rookie.”
“You should have just waited for me.”
He smirked. “It’s hot outside. I didn’t want to get my suit sweaty.”
“Jesus.” I narrowed my eyes. “You’re already a pain in my ass and you’ve only been here five minutes.”
He gave a gruff laugh. “This little arrangement wasn’t my idea.”
