“Tell me, please.” Her voice was hushed and her eyes wide.

“Something just came over us. We were arguing, like always, and next thing I knew we were… you know…” I winced.

“Kissing?”

I scrunched my face. “That too.”

“It went further?”

“Oh, yeah. It went way further.” I exhaled roughly. “I don’t know what happened. We just lost our minds and went at it with each other. I didn’t even realize I was attracted to guys until that moment. It was like I had to have him or I’d die. And… and he wanted me too.”

“He’s the first man you’ve had feelings for?”

I grimaced. “These ‘feelings’ were just sexual by the way. Don’t romanticize this.”

She looked annoyed. “Answer the question.”

“Yes. He’s the only man I’ve ever wanted that way.” I blinked at her. “But it makes no sense because we can’t stand each other. We’re both really confused and embarrassed. It was almost like an out-of-body experience.”

“Is that why he didn’t want to come inside today?”

“Mostly. He already felt uneasy about you because you brought up the whole solar eclipse omega thing and he has no relationship with his family. It’s a touchy subject for him.”

“Understandably.”

“Yeah.” I studied her tense face. “This is kind of awkward talking about this with you.”

She pursed her lips. “I’m afraid it might be about to get even worse.”

“Why?”

“Because—” She stopped talking when the doorbell rang.

I sighed. “It’s probably Blade. He’s most likely pissed I’m taking so long.”

She straightened. “Go invite him in.”

“He might not take me up on the offer.” I stood as I spoke and headed to the door. When I opened it, Blade stood on the doorstep looking agitated.

“What are you doing in there? How long does it take to grab your damn wallet?”

I pushed open the screen, and I stepped back. “Come inside. My mom wants to talk to you.”

His mouth was a straight line. “Why?”

“Come in and find out.” My tone was impatient.

“Wyatt, I don’t have time for this.”

“Yes you do. Stop stalling and get your ass in here,” I growled.

He scowled and pushed past me, grumbling under his breath. I followed him into the kitchen.

“Hello again, Blade.” My mom smiled at him, but her eyes were guarded. She waved to one of the empty chairs at the table. “Would you like some pie?”

He shook his head as he sat awkwardly in the seat. “No, thank you.” He gave me an irritable look. “We really should be going.”

“Cool your jets,” I snapped.
