I grunted as I turned to exit the bathroom. “One thing I will not pretend to do is understand you.”

He zipped up his pants and followed me out of the little room. “When can we see your mom?”

I was surprised at how eager he sounded. “I can call her and see if she’s busy tonight?”

“Do it.” He swallowed and pressed a hand to his stomach. “I just want this over with.”

I nodded and dialed my mom.

 Chapter Eleven

 Blade

Mrs. Smith’s gaze was sympathetic, and that only made me feel worse. I didn’t want sympathy. I wanted out of this embarrassing, logic-defying situation.

She crossed her gnarled fingers on the table, and she peered at me closely. “So you’ve finally come to your senses?”

“I’ve finally lost them, you mean.” My voice was gruff.

Her lips moved as if she squashed a smile. “I guess I get why you’re freaked-out. It won’t change anything, of course.”

I met Wyatt’s tense gaze, and he said, “We need help. Blade wants an abortion.”

She looked as if he’d slapped her. “What?” She gave me an angry glance, and I’ll admit it took self-control not to wilt from her obvious displeasure. “That’s out of the question.”

I scowled. “Excuse me. It’s my body.”

“The offspring of a solar eclipse omega is sacred. You don’t abort them.” Her chair creaked as she leaned back. “Your generation is so incredibly selfish.”

 I flushed. “I didn’t ask to be… you know.”

She snorted. “You can’t even say it?”

 I lifted my chin. “Pregnant.”

“Yeah, Mom. I mean, when you have sex with a girl, sure you know the risk. But with another dude?” He scrunched his features. “Yeah, not so much.”

“I don’t want to hear your excuses. You can’t abort this child. That’s all there is to it.”

 Irritation prickled me. “Says who?”

“The Ancients won’t stand for it.” Her voice was grim. “Solar eclipse omegas are supposed to propagate our species. Notdestroyperfectly good babies.”

“I know nothing about the Ancients. Why would they control me?” I held her angry stare. It had never occurred to me she would have a problem with me getting rid of the pregnancy. “Perhaps they were more important in your time.”

She widened her eyes. “They watch over us. They record all of our history. You cannot destroy this pregnancy without them knowing, and your name will go down in history as a traitor to your own kind.”

Wyatt surprised me when he put his hand on my shoulder. I didn’t push him off, and to be honest his touch felt kind of nice. It made me feel as if he had my back. “They can’t force Blade to have a baby he isn’t equipped to handle.”

She snapped her frustrated gaze to her son. “This is your fault too. You gave into your lustful instincts with no thought to the consequences.”

“I’d never even heard of a solar eclipse omega,” he grumbled. “I had no idea this could happen.”

 “Me either.”

“That’s because your generation thinks it knows best.” She looked at me impatiently. “If you’d just paid attention to the stories your parents told you, maybe you wouldn’t be in this position right now.” She sniffed.

I narrowed my gaze. “I never knew my parents. Remember? Nobody told me stories or warned me about anything. I had zero idea I was anything but a normal omega.”
