“I… just…”

“Colin can back me up on this.”

“I’m at a loss for words.”

He scraped back his chair and stood. “Seth, I’m serious. Colin will affirm what I’m saying.”

I rose too, feeling confused. He seemed so normal and rational usually. Even now, other thanwhathe was saying, he looked sane. “Pierce, come on.”

“I get that this sounds crazy.” He winced. “Fuck, I swear I really do.” He licked his lips, looking pale and shaky. “I’m only telling you this because of what happened between us last night.”

I squinted at him. “Are you on any kind of medication?”

He shook his head as his mouth hardened. “You’re going to feel like a jerk when you realize I’m telling the truth.”

“Well, since there’s really no way to prove or disprove what you’re saying…”

“Unfortunately, there’s a way.” He scowled. “But I’m regretting even talking to you about this now.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t like your expression.”

“Well, you just said some pretty weird shit. Am I supposed to just accept it and not question everything I know?” I grimaced.

“That would be nice.”

“Sorry, but I can’t just do that.” I studied him intently, wondering how he could look not crazy, when he clearly had to be.

“Seth.” He sounded exasperated. “I’m not insane.” He sucked in a long breath and faced me squarely. “Like I said, I wouldn’t even tell you if I didn’t have to.”

“Then why are you?”

“Because…” He cringed.

I shook my head, feeling like this had to be a joke. ”Next you’ll tell me I got you pregnant last night.”

Instead of laughing, as I expected, his face flushed a deep pink.

“Oh, come on.Come on, Pierce. Are you out of your mind?” I raked a hand through my hair. “This isn’t funny. Not even a little.”

“I should have had you meet me at Colin’s house. I should have known you’re too stubborn to listen to me.” He shook his head, scowling.

I put my hands on my hips. “You’re seriously telling me that I… that I got you pregnant. I got amanpregnant?”

“If I hadn’t been an idiot and listened to Colin and Riley, I wouldn’t have to put up with you looking at me like I have six heads right now.”

I sucked in a long, calming breath. “Okay, Pierce. Just be real with me. Is this your way of trying to drive me away? Did our connection scare you too much?”

He looked up the ceiling, and through gritted teeth he said, “I don’t know whether to punch you or laugh.”

“I don’t feel like laughing. Puking maybe.”

“Like I said, you don’t have to only take my word for it.”

I waved my hands around. “Men don’t have babies. It’s physically impossible.” I pressed my gut. “We don’t have a uterus. We don’t have the whole baby-birthing equipment.”

“I’m not going to bore you with the details of the omega pouch right now. We can do that later, once you see that I’m telling you the truth.” He moved to the door. “But I’m really sick of the way you’re looking at me, so we’re going to see Colin and Riley right now.”
