“I haven’t exactly hidden that from you.”

“No. But maybe your feelings changed now that we’ve spent more time together.” His blue eyes were brilliant in the morning sun.

My cheeks felt warm, but I continued to hold his gaze. “They haven’t.” My heart was beating quicker because this conversation was intriguing, and not one I’d ever expected to have with him. “Is that important? Does it matter if they’ve changed or not?”

He started walking again, his expression muddled. “Perhaps it’s the mountain air messing with my head.”

“Messing with you how?”

He pushed his hands into his jean pockets. “Oh, I’ve just been having strange dreams.”

“You have?” I kept my eyes on the gravelly road. “What… what kind of dreams?”

A muscle worked in his cheek. “Promise you won’t laugh?”

“I promise.”

“I had a dream about you.” He gave a strangled laugh. “A… a sex dream.”

I had to stop walking then, and he did too. I stared at him with my mouth hanging open. “You had a…sexdream aboutme?”

He winced and looked around. “Shhh.”

I laughed. “When?”

His cheeks were flushed. “Night before last.”

“Wow.” I bit my bottom lip, arousal flaring inside me. “That’s surprising.”

“Tell me about it.”

After his revelation, I wasn’t quite sure where to go with the conversation. “Well, did the dream upset you?”

He frowned. “Upset me?”

“Yeah, you know, did you feel dirty afterwards?” I grimaced. “Maybe freaked-out?”

He didn’t speak right away, but then he said quietly, “I didn’t feel dirty. I did feel pretty… rattled.”

Trying to keep the conversation on lighter ground, I said, “I’d feel the same way if I had a dream about having sex with Dr. Peters.”

Laughing, the tension seemed to leave him. “I’m glad we can laugh about this.”

“Yep. Nothing is better for my ego than people laughing about the idea of having sex with me.” I spoke flippantly, but there was a part of me that wished he was taking this more seriously.

His smile faded. “I wasn’t laughing in the dream.” He kept his gaze away from mine. “It was… hot. Surprisingly so.”

“It’s even more fun in real life.”

We fell into an uneasy silence. Finally, he broke it.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Yes.” I cast him a curious glance.

“Did you always know you liked guys? I mean, was there ever any doubt in your mind?” His expression was serious, and I realized he truly wanted my honest answer.

“I always knew.”
