“No. This is crazy.”

You’re crazy.

“You can deny it all you want, but we’re fated mates, or you couldn’t have gotten me pregnant. We’re going to have a baby. That’s the honest truth.”

I felt heartbroken, but I didn’t want him to see that. I didn’t want him to see that I thought he was deranged.

“I… I need some air.” I moved to the door.

“You can’t run from this.”

“I…” I shook my head and left the room.

If he called after me, I didn’t hear him. In a daze I left the cabin and started walking in the direction of Gabriele. I didn’t know who else to turn to. My stride was long, my breathing hard. I felt sick. Brokenhearted. I loved Dylan so much, it hurt. I’d stand by him no matter what; even crazy, I’d still love him. But the future I’d hoped for with him was gone. Shattered the minute he’d started babbling like a crazy person about being pregnant and fated mates.

When I got to the cabin Gabriele shared with Charles, I knocked on the door. I’d expected to see Gabriele, but instead Charles answered the door. “Gabriele,” I said harshly. “I need to talk to Gabriele.”

Charles started to say something, but he hesitated. His gaze became more intent. “What’s wrong?”

“I just need to talk to Gabriele,” I rasped.

He glanced behind me, and when I turned, Dylan was walking up the path. I closed my eyes, not sure what to do.

“I had to tell him the truth, Charles.” Dylan’s voice shook. “He thinks I’m crazy now.”

“You did what?” Charles sounded angry. “Why would you be so reckless?”

“I had to tell him.”

Shaking his head, Charles said, “Come inside. Both of you.” He stepped aside.

I moved into the house, acutely aware of Dylan behind me. But he moved to the other side of the room, avoiding my gaze. I was relieved when Gabriele wandered into the room, looking surprised to see me. He smiled, but it soon faded into a frown.

“Are you okay?” he asked me.

I shook my head.

He squeezed my arm. “What’s wrong?”

“Let’s all sit,” Charles said before I could respond. Once we were seated, he pinned his frustrated gaze on Dylan. “What exactly did you tell Lex?”

Dylan’s lips moved, but no words came out.

“He says he’s pregnant with my child,” I said gruffly.

Charles looked horrified. “God, no.”

“That’s what he said,” I whispered.

Gabriele’s head snapped toward me. “What?”

I sighed. “He says he’s pregnant.”

Gabriele shot Dylan a funny look. “Pregnant?”

Charles cleared his throat. “How is this possible that Lex would be your mate, Dylan?”

“How would I know?” Dylan frowned.
