Yeah, real special.

“You said Janelle’s mother, Angela, was one of his lovers?”

“Yes.” She straightened. “Maybe she killed Archie.”

I sighed. “So far, she has an alibi.”

“Oh.” She frowned.

“Were any of the other women he’d slept with at the wedding?”

“Yes.” She squinted. “I’m pretty sure he slept with one of the servers. The blonde girl with the big boobs. I saw her flirting with Archie during dinner service, but he didn’t seem interested.” She said through gritted teeth, “I guess he only had eyes for his lovelybride.”

“Anyone else you recognized as one of Archie’s past conquests?”

She shrugged. “That mousy little bridesmaid was always drooling over him.”

I frowned. “Who?”

“The one who thinks she’s Edgar Cayce. You know, the one who thinks she’s a psychic? She used to go on and on about how they were both redheads and how beautiful their babies would be.” Kimora curled her lip. “As if Archie wanted kids. He didn’t even like kids.”

My heart began to pound. “Do you mean Polly?”

“I don’t remember her name. She was Janelle’s bestie, or she pretended to be. Archie said she was really jealous of Janelle. Bitter AF. She felt like all the guys flocked to Janelle and never noticed her.”

“She told Archie that?”

Kimora grimaced. “Yes. She was very needy. He said he never should have slept with her because it gave her hope. Archie said he tried to let her down gently, but she completely lost it when he told her he wasn’t going to see her anymore. That he only wanted to be with Janelle.”

“He told her that?”

“Yes. And she got hysterical.”

I stood, stress eating at me. I’d unwittingly sent Janelle to stay with Polly. If Polly was the killer, I’d made a horrible mistake. “I’m going to have my deputy take you to a cell. I need to go.”

“Oh.” Kimora frowned. “Okay.”

I started to leave but stopped and turned back to her. “Once Archie died, why did you stay in Rainy Dale?”

“I didn’t know what to do. I had no money. Archie handled all the money. When he died… I had nothing.”

“Is that why you went to Janelle’s house? To steal her jewelry?”

She slumped. “Partly. I was also looking for something. A ring he’d given her that was supposed to be mine. I wanted it back.”

“I see.”

“But I couldn’t find it.”

I moved to the door, feeling sorry for her but also disgusted. She was a pathetic person. She’d put all her trust in a man who’d only cared about himself. Now she had nothing. She’d go to jail all because she’d blindly followed Archie. “I’m sorry this was the path you chose, Kimora. Things are only going to get rougher from here on out.”

“You don’t understand.” She scowled. “It was all worth it. Archie loved me. He’d have come back to me. I know it. I just know it.”

Shaking my head, I left the interview room. It was imperative I got to Polly’s house ASAP. I tapped Deputy Juan to accompany me, and I prayed that Kobe was still there with the two of them. If Polly was the killer, she might try to hurt Janelle. I was pretty sure Kobe wouldn’t let that happen.

I parked in front of Polly’s small home, relieved to see Kobe’s pickup truck out front. Feeling uneasy, I walked to the front door, glancing over at Deputy Juan. “Juan, go to the back. Just in case she decides to run.”

“You got it.” He took off around the side of the little white house.
