“Who would be using her internet besides her?” Ali asked.
“Remember how we questioned how a fiction author would be able to create a device to time-delay an explosion?”
“Can you get that information online?”
“From what I’ve been able to tell,” Kenzi said, “if you know the right places to look, yes.”
“Oh.” Ali sounded genuinely disappointed. “That doesn’t look good for Ms. Holdcraft. Speaking of whom, what is her status?”
“Still missing. The authorities have broadened the search nationwide. They’re watching airports and borders.”
“If she’s innocent she should come forward.”
“Let’s go to our sponsor and when we return, I have another conflicting bit of evidence. I swear, the pendulum swings one way and then the other.”
“I can’t wait, Kenzi.”
“Thirty seconds,” Greta said.
“We’re back,” Ali said. “What additional evidence did you have to share with our listeners?”
“It turns out that we have a cyber sleuth who works for a nationally recognized airline. Anonymously, this sleuth confirmed that Michelle Holdcraft flew from Boston to Indianapolis at 5:37 p.m. on Sunday, before Dennis Holdcraft’s death. She arrived in Indianapolis at 8:09 p.m.”
“Are you sure? That isn’t normal for an airline to disclose such a thing.”
“It isn’t. However, once the information was leaked, the airline made an announcement on Twitter. Ms. Holdcraft was seated in 3D.” Kenzi’s smile was audible.
“You’re right. Now I’m back to believing it wasn’t her. But then, why would she blow up her own home?”
“Are we sure she did?” Kenzi sighed. “I wish we could ask her.”
“Do you think with the proof of an airline ticket, the Indiana attorney general will change her mind about the grand jury?” Ali asked.
“I’m sure the ticket will be evidence. Even though it doesn’t help the prosecution, now that it’s public, they have to disclose it. It might be enough for the grand jury to decide not to take this case to trial.”
“Shout out to our cyber sleuths. Let’s go back to Dennis Holdcraft,” Ali said. “You and I saw his house. The analysis determined accelerant was used.”
“Definitely arson.”
“There’s no way Michelle was there. And don’t forget the shed.”
“I haven’t forgotten the shed. Do we believe that Mr. Holdcraft was suicidal or that whoever cleaned out that shed could be the person who killed him?” Kenzi asked.
“And, I keep wondering, what was in that shed. Everyone we spoke to said Mr. Holdcraft was a loner and quiet. Back to one of our original discussions on this case. Could there be any link between retired police officer Holdcraft and the child abductions in the New England area?”
“I don’t know,” Kenzi said, “The good old sheriff would tell us we’re playing detective and Iron Falls doesn’t have murders. It couldn’t possibly be a stop along a trafficking highway.”
“Before it was cleaned out, the shed was sustainable.”
“As in keeping someone there? Maybe a child?”
“What has Timothy Wells revealed about his ordeal?” Ali asked.
“His parents are keeping him away from the press.”
“I can’t blame them.”
“We’ll be back after a break with new information about the Delphi case from Indiana.”
