“It’s fucking freezing out there,” she says as she rubs her arms.
“You hungry?” She nods her head, and I wave her over. She comes and sits at the table while Tony does the same. I finish cooking and set out the plates, and the three of us eat. This is what we do when we’re not out fucking around. This is who we are. We’re our own little family.
“We have a decision to make,” I say, mainly to Tony. Kim’s vote doesn’t make a difference in this.
“Which is?” he asks.
“Let her in or not.”
“Who?” Kim asks this time as she eats.
“Luna.”
“No. She’s not one of us.”
“That’s the point, isn’t it?” I ask, looking over at her.
“We have plenty of girls, Marco.”
“And what’s one more?”
“How? How is she joining?” Now her eyes narrow on me. There are two ways in. The fuck in or the jump in.
“Jump in,” I say immediately. That seems to satisfy her even though it shouldn’t. I know that she thinks we’re something we’re not, and that needs to be handled soon, too.
“Fine. I’m all for beating her ass.”
Chapter 7
Luna
I’ve spent the last week cleaning up the apartment and snuggling with Davey every single night after school, but now it’s time to get back to the real world. I haven’t heard shit from Marco, and I didn’t figure I would.
I get dressed, pulling on my tight jeans and boots before slipping my sweatshirt on over the long-sleeve shirt I had in the closet. I head out the door and down the steps to find Hock and Tony sitting at the bottom.
“What are you doing?” I ask. They both turn and look up at me.
“It’s fucking cold out there. We’re hanging out in the heat.” I should tell them to get the fuck out of here, considering I have to pay for this fucking heat, but I don’t. Instead, I nod my head and walk down the steps, watching them slide apart so that I can get through.
“You’re going to freeze out there without a coat on,” Hock tells me.
“Aww, do you care?” I make a whiny voice at him. He laughs and shakes his head, nodding toward the door.
I walk out, slamming the door behind me, but I can still hear the assholes laughing. Thankfully, winter is almost over. Any fucking day now, this shit can end.
I start my walk down the block when I hear someone whistle. I turn my head and see Marco standing across the street, motioning for me to come to him. I almost flip him off, but I want that damn job, so I turn and walk over there.
“What?”
“Where are you going?”
“What are you, my keeper now?” I snap at him before I start to walk away. Marco grabs the back of my sweatshirt and tugs me back against him. His arms wrap around me, and a shiver runs through my body.
“Why are you so mouthy?”
“Because I can be.”
“We’re going out tonight,” he tells me, and this time I roll my eyes.
