“You’re crazy. I’m not teaching you shit.”
“That’s my thanks?”
“You got a hug. What more do you want?” I tease him when Davey comes strolling in. He climbs into my lap and wraps his arms around my neck, clinging to me. I wrap my arms around him and hold him close.
“He’s a good kid,” Tony says, nodding toward my brother.
“Yeah, he is. He’s a smart kid, huh, Davey? You’re smarter than me,” I tell him, and he grins. I can’t help but smile along with him. I love him. If anything in this life is worth anything, it’s Davey. I would do just about anything for this kid.
“So tomorrow night, will your mom be here?”
“It’s hard to say. You have someone who will watch him?” I ask. He nods.
“Yeah, I’ll get someone here.”
“Are we just not telling Marco?”
“Fuck no. He’d beat my ass for even bringing it up to you. We’re sure as hell not going to tell him ahead of time,” he says.
“Not like he talks to me anyway,” I mumble.
“He’s going to come around, Luna. It was all a shock.”
“It’s been weeks, Tony.”
“And? That means shit, and you know it.”
“Maybe. Now get out so I can get to work and not have anything left for tomorrow,” I tell him. Tony grins and stands, leaning down to press his lips to the top of my head, which is something he’s never done before.
“I don’t care what Marco says, you’re crew. You proved it that night, Luna. And I’ll protect my crew.” With that, he turns and walks out of my room.
Chapter 16
Marco
I’m waiting for my turn to fight. Underground fights have become my stress reliever for the last two weeks. Not seeing her is negatively affecting me, and I don’t like it. There’s this feeling in my chest that just lingers there, tugging me to her. It’s as if I can feel her nearby, but I can’t force myself to go.
I’m still pissed at the fact she slept with my brother, but in fairness, we weren’t actually together like she said. I never told her I wanted to be exclusive or anything, so maybe that was my fault.
The fact that she went to Pete is what’s killing me. The fact that she now knows what it’s like to kill someone. The fact that she will now have dreams and nightmares. The thoughts are going to linger every fucking day in the back of her mind, reminding her of what she’s done. I hate it. I hate everything about it.
And yet I can’t pull myself from her. I can’t pull myself away from her or let her go. It’s a fucked up situation that we’re in, and I know this is hurting her too.
I stand back with my arms crossed over my chest as they call out the girls’ fight. One of them I know, the other name hits me like a ton of fucking bricks.
“Let’s welcome Chula to the ring for her debut fight!” The announcer says as my head snaps up and my eyes find her right in the goddamn middle of the ring. No. She’s not here fighting. What the hell is going on? Then I look over and see Tony ringside, talking to her. That motherfucker. I’m going to beat his ass for this.
My arms drop to my sides as the rules are announced, and I storm toward him. I grab the back of his neck, but the fight has already started.
“What the fuck, Tony?”
“She wanted to fight,” he replies, shrugging his shoulders. I quickly let go of him and turn to the fight that’s happening. I know my Chula can fight, but Amanda is strong and has been doing this a long time.
My eyes are glued to this fight. I can’t pull away. I’m like a moth to the flame. Once you’re looking, you can’t stop. Amanda hits Luna, snapping her head back, and I growl low in my throat. I’ll fucking take her out if she hurts her. I will end her life. My hands cling to the cage as I begin to yell for Luna.
“Keep your hands up! Don’t give her any space,” I yell for her. She doesn’t look over or acknowledge me at all, but that’s fine, I know she heard me. There’s no way she didn’t.
The fight keeps going because there are no rounds in these fights. I can see that both of them are beginning to get tired, and that worries me. Amanda sneaks in and slams her fist into Luna’s face, and she goes down hard. Her head hits the mat, and I’m about to rip the cage door open when Tony stops me. He shakes his head as the crowd goes insane. Her eyes slowly come to meet mine, and I give her a nod, letting her know she can do this.
