“I won’t take the job.”
Aaron’s eyebrows rose. “You’d give up the job for a relationship?”
“In a heartbeat.” Zaire was never more certain of anything in his life.
“It’s hardly fair to you.”
“A good relationship is harder to find than a job.” Zaire chuckled.
Aaron studied him, making him fidget. “Offer still stands for the job. We’ll work our way through it if you decide to join the team.”
“So…you want me?” Zaire asked in a small voice.
Aaron smiled and cupped Zaire’s jaw, stroking his thumb back and forth over his cheek. “I do. But where is my confident boy hiding? The one who gives me flirty innuendos while at work. The one who reprimands strangers in bars.” Aaron snickered. “Oh, that would be me.”
Zaire laughed and ducked his head before lifting it again. Aaron’s gaze flicked over Zaire’s shoulder and back again. “Is Colin okay?”
Aaron grinned. “He’s fine. Looks like you’ve both found a Daddy tonight.”
“You know how I am. I try to be good, but it’s so difficult,” Zaire admitted.
“I’m here to help you now. What are your hard limits?”
“I don’t like being watched. By other people, I mean. PDAs are fine, but anything more, I’m not comfortable with.” He needed to stop rambling.
“Okay. What else?” Aaron’s hand left his jaw and rested on top of Zaire’s wringing hands.
“I don’t like being tied up. Restrained. If someone held my wrists, it’s fine but nothing…unbending.”
“Did something happen to you?”
If any other person had asked, Zaire would’ve told them to mind their own business. Despite how little they knew each other, Zaire was already beginning to trust Aaron, so he nodded. “A previous partner tied me up and wouldn’t undo them.”
“Did he hurt you?”
“No, he just laughed and watched me struggle.” Zaire swallowed and looked away. “I don’t know how long it was until he finally undid the rope,” he finished quietly.
“Okay. Thank you for trusting and telling me. Any more limits?”
Zaire thought for a moment. “Can’t think of any.”
“Okay, we’ll see if any more crop up as we go along.” When Zaire nodded, Aaron continued, “What type of boy are you?”
“A frustrated one?” Zaire cackled, stifling his laughter under his palm.
“There he is.” Aaron smiled at him, his eyes sparkling. “There’s the man I know and the boy I want to know.”
Zaire shrugged. “I’m a usual boy, wanting someone to take care of him, someone to understand him.”To love him. Zaire refused to say that out loud.
“Why do you keep the boy and the man separate?”
“People are unforgiving when it comes to this version of me.” He waved his hand in front of himself. “I found it easier to be the working man and relax when I get home.”
Aaron nodded. “Maybe we can work on merging the two and see if we can find a happy medium for you. What do you think?”
Studying the man before him, Zaire said, “I don’t think we’ll be able to, but I’m willing to give it a try.”
“It’s all I can ask of you.”
