“What do you want from me?”

“Obedience. Communication. Trust. Do you think you can do that?”

“Can I say I will try?” Zaire didn’t want to set himself up to fail from the beginning. If he gave a definitive answer, he would be scared of disappointing them both.

Aaron smiled. “Yes, you can, although communication is vital. If at any point you don’t like what’s happening or don’t understand why something is happening, you need to let me know. It’s non-negotiable.”

“Fair enough.”

“I think you’ve probably had enough stress tonight, haven’t you?” Aaron said, skimming his fingers along Zaire’s jaw.

“I am feeling a bit overwhelmed,” Zaire agreed.

“Let’s get you home.”

“What about Colin?” Zaire looked over his shoulder to where Colin sat with Dave.

“We’ll ask him what he wants to do before we leave. If he wants to stay, I can get Cord to keep an eye on him. If he wants to leave, he can come with us.” Aaron paused. “Did you drive here?”

Zaire shook his head. He hadn’t thought it was a good idea to drive when he might need alcohol to settle his nerves. “No, we got a taxi.”

“Good choice. I can drive you home.”

Zaire slid out of the booth and stepped away so Aaron could do the same. Once Aaron had, he gazed at Zaire and linked their fingers together as if awaiting a rebuttal. When Zaire didn’t pull away, the corner of Aaron’s mouth lifted, and he directed Zaire to Colin’s table.

“Sorry to interrupt, Dave. Colin’s friend wanted to check his plans.” Aaron glanced at Zaire, indicating with his head.

“Hey, Colin,” Zaire said with a quiet voice and a flick of his gaze to Dave. “I’m getting a lift home. Do you want to come, or are you happy here?”

He watched as twin red patches bloomed on Colin’s cheeks as he smiled at Dave, and Zaire knew his answer. “I’m happy to stay. Dave said he would take me home or see me to a taxi when we’ve finished talking.”

“I’ll make sure he’s safe,” Dave agreed.

Aaron nodded and squeezed Zaire’s hand.

“Alright. Call me tomorrow, Colin. Okay?” Zaire lifted his eyebrows, hoping Colin understood his meaning.

“I will.”

“See you, Dave,” Aaron said, clapping his shoulder. To Zaire, he said, “I need to say goodbye to Cord.”

Zaire’s heels clicked against the wooden floor of the club as he followed behind Aaron. He couldn’t believe how much had changed since he’d walked through Infinity’s doors. When he’d arrived, he’d hoped to find a Daddy, but he honestly hadn’t believed he would. For it to end up being Aaron, who was potentially going to be his boss, was disconcerting.

Sneaking a glance at Aaron as he spoke to Cord, Zaire felt a warm sensation inside him. It was too early to tell if they were a perfect fit, but from what Zaire had witnessed other times, Aaron would be great. Time would tell if Zaire would fit with what Aaron needed. That was where all Zaire’s other relationships had failed. They had told him he was an unmovable mountain who wouldn’t learn the rules. Zaire stared at the floor, shoulders dropping at the memories from not one, but two Daddies. Maybe he wouldn’t ever find someone who could deal with him. Maybe he should leave Aaron now and stop trying.

An arm slipped around his back, tugging him closer, and Zaire peeked up at Aaron.

“Stop thinking so hard. Wherever your mind just went, I don’t like it,” Aaron whispered in his ear.

Zaire didn’t say anything, though he dropped his gaze once more.

“Cord, we’re going to go. Zaire’s feeling tired.” Aaron clapped hands with Cord and guided Zaire to the exit.

Zaire peered over his shoulder for one final check on Colin, who sat in the same place with a huge smile on his face, his hand clasped in Dave’s. Zaire smiled. He was so happy for Colin.

“He’ll be fine. Cord will keep an eye on them as well.”

Moving his gaze to Aaron’s, Zaire gave a lopsided grin. “Thank you. It means a lot.”
