Aaron tilted his head. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to have to leave somewhere you’re happy to work. I know you’ve been looking for somewhere permanent. If you want to stay at this school, you’re welcome to. Although a personal relationship is allowed within the school, we need to think about the bigger picture regarding parents and governors. It will prove tricky and will possibly test us, both as a relationship and as a boss and employee, but I think we are strong enough to handle it, don’t you?” Aaron smiled at him.
“I would like to think we are. But it’s for the best for me to find somewhere else. I’m sorry for leaving as soon as I agreed. I will stay at the school until you’ve found a replacement.”
“It’s not a problem. And thank you for staying to help. I will find someone as soon as I can. I think we should tell Pamela and Uma about our relationship; that way, each of us has someone who we can talk to if needed while I find a new teaching assistant. They are our friends, after all.” Aaron smiled.
“Okay, Daddy.” Zaire couldn’t feel any effects of the alcohol anymore, yet he was shattered, but if he slept, he wouldn’t get to see Aaron much. He wanted to spend as much time as possible with Aaron.
“Have you finished your dinner, sweetheart?”
“Yes, thank you.” Zaire yawned.
“Let’s get you ready for bed. You need your rest.”
“But it’s only six!”
“Well, I was going to suggest watching TV before bed, but I think maybe you need some more time in the time out chair.” The tone was short and sharp.
Zaire ducked his head. “No! I hate that chair!”
“I think you’re tired, Zaire, and you need sleep.”
“I don’t want to go to sleep yet! I want to spend more time with you.”
“As sweet as that is, you need sleep,” Aaron reiterated.
Zaire stood, scraping the chair back on the floor. “Fine. I’ll go to bed, then.” He stomped to the stairs, jogging up them and heading straight to the bed. Flopping down on the covers, he closed his eyes, all the fight leaving his body. Tears escaped from his eyes. He hated disappointing his Daddy, but he also hated not being able to be with him. He rolled to his side and gripped the pillow in his hands as his tears came. He felt the bed dip behind him and arms come around his waist.
“Let it all out, Zaire. I’m here for you, sweetheart. I’m not going anywhere.”
Zaire twisted around and wrapped his whole body around Aaron’s, face pressed into his chest as his tears soaked into Aaron’s shirt. He had no idea how long it had been when he finally relaxed enough to think clearly. He took a deep breath.
“Sorry, Daddy,” he whispered.
“It’s okay, sweet boy. We will figure this all out. But we won’t be able to do it when we’re tired. We both need sleep, not just you. I didn’t get much last night either. I thought if we both had an early night, we would feel better tomorrow and could think clearly about what to do. I should’ve explained it to you.”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s not okay. I want communication from you, but I also need to remember I need to communicate with you, too. It’s not fair for me to expect you to behave in certain ways if I haven’t explained how or why.” They laid in silence for a few moments before Aaron moved. “We need to get ready for bed, or I’ll be asleep like this.” He chuckled.
Zaire smiled and sat upright. “I think sleep is a good idea.”
Aaron stroked a hand over Zaire’s head. “After some sleep, we’ll be able to fight the whole world if we have to.”
“We will, Daddy, but I hope we don’t have to.”

Chapter 12
Aaron
Aaron had been correct when he’d told Zaire that Pamela and Uma wouldn’t care about their relationship—not their Daddy and boy relationship, just that they were in one.
Zaire had spoken with the agency and agreed to stay on at the school until a replacement could be found. Aaron got right on it as soon as he’d set foot in the office that morning. He had several interviews set up for the following week.
When Friday finally rolled around, Zaire had asked if they could go to the club. Aaron wanted nothing more than to sit it out after the week he’d had, but he’d agreed. He didn’t want Zaire getting the idea Aaron didn’t want to be seen with him.
They planned to go to Infinity, and Zaire had invited Colin, who was still with Dave, and Rod, who was alone because his girlfriend was away with her friends, and Aaron had invited Nora, Geoff and Cord. It was turning into a get-together. Aaron was glad Zaire had suggested it because it would give their friends the chance to meet and mingle. There was one thing on Aaron’s mind.
