Mav shook his head. “You can’t. I’m happy to keep doing the work regardless, but you need to speak to someone about it if you want me to continue in an official capacity.”

“Fuck. I never thought of that.”

Mav ran a hand over Douglas’s head. “It’s okay.”

Douglas leaned forward and rubbed his face. “I always leap before I look. I was so…angry at him for what he was doing to you. It wasn’t fair. I should’ve thought of the repercussions, though.”

Mav moved the tablet to the bedside table and climbed into Douglas’s lap, his hands framing his face. “Everything will be fine. I’m sure I can sort something out fairly easily, as long as Bert keeps to his word about not making things difficult for me.” He kissed Douglas chastely. “I would, however, recommend you speak to me before you do something like that again. We could brainstorm before the event to come up with any potential issues.”

“I promise. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry. Thank you.” He kissed each of Douglas’s cheeks. “Thank you.” He kissed Douglas’s nose. “Thank you.” He kissed Douglas’s forehead. “Thank you, sweetheart.”

He kissed his lips, swiping his tongue across the full mounds, then inside when Douglas opened for him. Douglas slid his arms around Mav’s lower back, holding him tightly.

“Didn’t you say you had something for me?”

Douglas blinked, trying to focus on Mav’s words but unable to fully comprehend until Mav repeated the question. “Oh, yes!” Douglas grinned, then deposited Mav on his back on the bed and raced to the living room, grabbing the bag he’d dropped near the front door when he’d first entered. He grinned as he rushed back, hoping Mav would love this experience as much as the previous ones. He’d been taking things further with different items each time they played, and Mav had responded beautifully to everything so far.

Mav was where he’d left him but with his hand behind his head and leg cocked to the side, showing Douglas what he had for the taking. He jumped onto the bed, laughing.

“What have you got today?”

Douglas snuggled down until they were facing each other with the small bag between them. “Okay, tonight, I thought we could try something a little further up the scale. We’ve done blindfolds, which you seem comfortable with. Is that correct?”

“Yes. It helps me to focus on what you’re doing.”

“Exactly. I would like to do it again but try you with earplugs as well. I would take away your sight and hearing. You’ll only know where and when I’m going to touchwhenI do it. What do you think?”

Chapter 23

Maverick

Mav inhaled. He liked the idea behind it, but was he ready to have his senses removed? “How will you know if it’s too much for me?”

“You’ll have your safe words, which you can use whenever you want. I will watch your body language, and if I think you’re uncomfortable, I will remove your earplugs to check with you. You will also have use of your hands, so if you can’t tell me, you can show me by lifting your hand into the air.”

“What will you use on me?” Mav’s heart rate increased because the idea that he wouldn’t be in control was nice.

“Ah, that would be telling.” Douglas winked. “Nothing that will hurt you, I promise. I know it’s not your thing.”

Mav sniffed, licking his lips as he stared at Douglas. Douglas wouldn’t do anything to hurt him, and he trusted him to abide by his limits. Mav’s heart skipped a beat. He trusted him with everything he was.

“Yes. Let’s try it.”

Douglas smiled and leaned forward, kissing Mav with such tenderness. How was he going to cope once Douglas was no longer in his life?

He moved into the position Douglas showed and waited while he readied a few items out of Mav’s eye line.

“All right, I will ask for your colours throughout this, but because you won’t be able to hear me, I will tap your chin three times. Okay?”

“Yes, Sir.” Mav could already feel the tension releasing from his muscles, his limbs sinking further into the mattress, his gaze softening.

Returning to face him, Douglas smiled. “Okay, let’s start with the blindfold.” Douglas sat next to him, bringing the black silk fabric to his face and slipping it over his head. Knowing what to expect, Mav sighed as he put it in place. “There we go. How are you feeling?”

“Green, Sir.”
