“No. I’m going to try and alter your memory.” He grinned wickedly and I stared him down.
“You think you can do that?” Cam questioned, running a hand through his hair.
“Only one way to find out. I won’t go too deep, it’ll just be something that you won’t miss,” he explained.
“Alright, I’ll go first,” I offered, giving him a grin in return.
Fischer closed his eyes for a moment and his breathing deepened. I almost thought he’d fallen asleep, but then his eyes snapped open and they were pitch black. Dude was scary as fuck when he did that shit.
But a deal was a deal and he needed to practice, so I met his gaze and was instantly sucked into his spell. Since I allowed him in willingly, it wasn’t painful. If someone were to try and fight against his power, it would be excruciating. No thanks.
The creepiest part was it almost felt like fingertips stroking my brain, coaxing the information that he was seeking. I didn’t have to be able to look to know that my arms were covered in goosebumps. It wasn’t natural to me. Letting someone in. Like this, or otherwise. My thoughts were mine and they didn’t ever need to see the light of day. Fish was the only person I would be able to do this kind of exercise with and that was just because of our history. He was probably the only person I’d ever allowed to get close enough to see what I was really like on the inside.
It was unclear how much time had passed, but when I opened my eyes, I was staring at the ceiling.
“You were looking a little pale there, so we laid you back. How ya feeling?” Cam asked, leaning over me.
“I’m fine,” I grunted, pushing myself up.
“Sullivan, what the hell is going on over here?” a female voice called and I turned to look.
“We’re good, Natalia. Fischer was just practicing some mind control stuff,” Kai explained to her. She was studying my face intensely. For what? I had no fucking idea.
“Okay, well... Come see me later if you need anything,” Natalia said to me, her voice dropping in its severity to something more suggestive.
My brow furrowed as I looked up at her.
“Sure,” I growled. Was this chick flirting with me right now?
Her eyes widened slightly before she spun on her heel and stomped off.
When I looked back at my friends, they all had a mixture of expressions on their faces.
“What?” I snapped. “Can you believe that? I’m here to train, not play around with a trainer. What the fuck was she thinking propositioning me like that?”
Cam and Kai immediately started howling with laughter and that pissed me off more. The fuck was so fucking funny?
“Dude, you didn’t?” Cam hooted between laughs, addressing Fischer.
Kai flopped over on the mat, holding his stomach, his shoulders shaking.
“Guess I am capable of removing memories after all,” Fischer gloated, sitting up straighter with a smug ass smile on his face. That just set the other two off again.
The two of us were locked in a staredown and I suddenly wanted nothing more than to kiss that smug smirk off his face.

The guys,of course, told me after the fact that I’d apparently slept with Natalia a time or two and had been a douche about it. Fischer saw an opportunity and he took it. Fucker. I smiled at the memory of him looking so smug after besting me like that. To this day, I still couldn’t remember fucking that woman. Anytime I tried to recall it—just for the sake of seeing if I could—it felt like my mind was blurring out of focus before just going blank, and I’d get the tiniest jolt of pain right behind my eyes.
And that was exactly the feeling I now had about this entire situation. When I thought back to the forest, I couldn’t remember a fucking thing. The past several weeks, in fact.
No, Fischer definitely wasn’t dead. But the bastard had done something to us, of that I was certain.
Good thing I love mysteries.

After showering and getting dressed,I slipped through the doors that adjoined our rooms. Kai wasn’t in his, so I continued to Cam’s spooky medieval lookin' room. As I pushed through the door, I found them lounging on the bed. We were dressed nicely. Slacks, button-down shirts. The closets were fully stocked with clothes, but a maid had delivered the outfit for dinner, complete with dress shoes that pinched my toes.
