“Perhaps we should send Bagheera back to try once more?” Gran suggested. “Let him attempt this again, and these two can shower and get some clean clothes. We’ll meet back here in two hours. I’m going to grab some supplies that will enhance the spell circle. With the six of us, should Fischer be unable to achieve this on his own, a power linking circle should give him a surge of magic to ensure he’s able to reach Kai,” Gran told us, looking around at each of our faces. Faris and Fischer were both in agreement so I swallowed the disappointment at having to wait when I saw the sparkle in their eyes at the mention of a shower. A couple of hours was nothing. We needed to prepare.

“Okay, let’s do this. Two hours and then we get our guys back.” I clapped and everyone sprang into motion. I needed to talk to Baggie.

‘Baggie? Are you here?’I called out into the endless darkness that was my subconscious.

Purring came in reply almost instantly and I smiled. He wasn’t approaching me yet, though. So I followed the sound of him and saw a flicker of his yellow eyes.

‘Hey, baby kitty,’I purred.‘Why are you lying here?’I don’t think I’d ever seen him just lazing around.‘Are you hurt?’

‘Not hurt. Sad.’

Oh.Oh.

‘Aww, Baggie,’I crooned, sitting down next to him and pulling his big head onto my lap.‘I miss him too. So much. And Cam and Sloane. That’s why I’m here, actually,’I told him as I stroked his soft, silky fur.

His ears flicked at that. Attentive, focused.

‘Fischer woke up, Baggie. Finally. He’s alive and he’s okay,’I breathed, hardly able to believe it myself.

‘It would take more than that to kill any of your mates, Cub.’

‘He can hear my thoughts. We were able to converse in our minds with no problem. From what we can tell, the guys are all getting power boosts since I came into my powers,’I explained.

‘And mated with a red demon.’

His voice was sheepish and I couldn’t stop myself from laughing.‘You picked up on that, hmm? You naughty kitty,’I pretend scolded him and he just purred deeper.

‘Any creature with decent scenting capabilities would ‘pick up on that’.’

‘Quit it,’I giggled, shoving him onto his back to tickle his belly.

‘I need Kaito,”he said with sadness and longing.

‘I know. Fischer is going to try to use his magic to infiltrate his psyche and allow you to slip back into his mind. Are you up for that? I think it’s time we get our boys back, Baggie,’I smiled down at him. He scoffed, literally scoffed, and it sounded so much like a noise Sloane would make I could’ve wept.

‘I was born for this, Cub. I will be ready.’

With that, he rolled and smoothly got to his feet, tail swishing with renewed determination.

‘Good. I’ll be back for you soon,’I promised, and as I let myself come back to reality, the sound of a roar that promised vengeance and success echoed in my mind.

Baggie’s gonna fuck some people up. I’m so here for it.

“Let’sgo out to the garden. The air will help to project Fischer’s will and carry his good intentions to Kai,” Gran explained, leading the group of us outside.

“Are you nervous?” I whispered to Fish.

He glanced down at me, a soft smile on his full lips. I had no restraint so I tugged his face down to mine and kissed him. His tongue swiped at the seam of my mouth and I opened for him, letting him in. Kissing Fischer was much like the man himself. Calm, restrained, and purposeful with a hint of fire that promised more underneath.

Fischer pulled back and smiled, and my heart swelled at the sight. I’d thought I’d never see that smile again. My hands wouldn’t stop seeking him, needing to feel for myself that this was real, he was alive.

“I’m excited to try this, sweetheart. It’s a brilliant plan. Truly.” He slipped his hand into mine, but there was still a wariness about him. We made our way outside, there were a few hours of daylight yet.

"You're nervous about seeing them again," I realized.
