Fish squeezed my hand in response. "I don't think they're going to be happy with me, sweetheart. I wiped their memories. It's a huge violation of trust and I know they’re going to be upset with me."
Faris overheard and balked. "You did what you had to do to keep everyone safe. Our magic was no match for Laurie and Bryce in that state. If they have a problem, I'll gladly remind them that they would've been drowned on dry fucking land."
Was Faris being... protective? Fischer looked just as surprised as I'm sure I did.
"Over here, party people!" Gran shouted, dropping her basket of goodies onto the grass. "Faris, do you have any of the mind powers that you shared with Fischer?"
Well shit, I hadn't even considered that he might not.
"I can't sense emotions like he can, or have conversations telepathically. But I think I may be able to bend people's will... Make them do things," he explained, a flare of mischief glinting in his dark eyes.
"Explain that," Bram ordered, crossing his arms.
"Well, I did a little experiment. Before Fischer went to take a shower..." He paused and Fish stiffened, his eyes narrowing on his brother. "I might have suggested he shave his armpits and legs."
Khol and Bram both laughed, not even trying to fight it.
"You fucker!" Fish shouted, heading for Faris with the promise of violence in the way his shoulders were bunched and fists were clenched.
"Did it work? Are you a smoothie now?" Faris cackled, dodging Fischer's attempt to grab him.
"Okay, okay! Focus, you two," I scolded with mirth. "Judging by Gup's reaction, Faris' compulsion powers are in full working condition."
"Let's get on with it," Fish grumbled, muttering about razor burn and how he'd be suffering in a few days.
"Everyone, please make a circle and take a seat. We will all hold hands and drop our barriers to amplify Fischer's range of power. Let me prepare a few things first," Gran said, taking out several white candles and lighting them. Next, she began revealing crystals, arranging them around the candles in the center of our circle.
"Obsidian, naturally made volcanic glass, please provide us with your calming and clarifying protection," she said, holding up a jet black stone. Next, she pulled out a turquoise stone. "Grant us open communication and guide our magic in connection with the will of the universe." Her last addition was a large amber stone that was said to bring balance and luck. We needed all the help we could get.
"What do you need us to do, Fish?" Khol asked, ready to begin. I think everyone was on edge, and rightfully so. It had been an overwhelming chain of events.
"I think if we all do what Bette has suggested and focus on Kai, it will strengthen the probability of reaching him," Fischer advised.
Bagheera was pacing in my mind, anxious and ready for action.
"Alright, we need to start because Baggie is restless as hell and he needs his daddy cat back..." I winced at the rumble of objection through my brain. "Correction, Baggie is the daddy cat. And uh, I'm not allowed to say that again."
Faris and Bram were hooting with laughter and I already knew the two of them together were going to be trouble.
"Join hands. Clear your minds and focus on our beloved Kaito. Close your eyes, feel his energy and his love for you flowing through your veins, picture his slender build, the ease with which he moves… His dark eyes and the sheer primal prowess—" I cleared my throat in an attempt to get Gran to focus and heard a few snickers coming from the group. “Focus on Kai, let all of those feelings rush over you in a soothing wave…” I let my eyes fall closed and my sweet shifter's face appeared, his charming smile, the easy way he moved when he walked or did his morning yoga. The fierce devotion he had toward his brothers, to Baggie, to me.
"Now, drop the barriers on your magic and let it flow from you to the person next to you. You will feel a rush of energy," Gran said as she sucked in a breath, clearly feeling Khol's power as he passed it to her. "Just let it flow naturally, don't bottle it up, keep it flowing like water rushing over rocks in a river."
Bram's power tingled as it moved up my arm and into my being. I recognized the feeling from the first few times we'd met. A groan left my lips when a new, darker energy slipped in.Faris.Tempting, unrestricted, bloody, erotic. I quickly let it flow into Guppy before it affected me any more than it already had. Once the magic was flowing steadily, it didn't take long for Fischer's hand to squeeze mine.
"Keep the line open, but open your eyes and focus on the crystals before you. We will chant and wish for the stars to aid us in this endeavor," Gran said softly.
My eyes flickered open and I gasped when I saw a multitude of colors surrounding each of us, moving clockwise around our circle and stopping at Fischer. Damn, that was a lot of power. When I turned to look at Fish, I could scarcely see the man. He was glowing as the magic twisted and wrapped around him, his eyes pitch black as his head tilted back to the sky.
"Chant with me and focus on our goal. We will succeed. Our intention is pure and true!" Gran called out, sending goosebumps over my body.
"Unus ex corde meo, me unum de anima mea, unum corpus nunc unus ex animo.”
My one of heart, my one of soul, my one of body, now one of mind.
Our voices carried on the soft breeze, our combined power potent enough that I felt the hairs on my head beginning to lift.
"Now, sweetheart," Fischer gritted out. I slammed my eyes closed and Baggie was right there, letting out a roar worthy of a king. I pictured Kai in my mind, thought about how I'd be with him soon, my mate. Baggie ran full speed, getting closer and closer, his paws thundering with each stride. Then, he leapt... and was gone.
