I clapped a hand on Cam’s shoulder in support and he looked at me, a little shocked.
"Hey, just because I didn't have a body until recently doesn't mean I don't know all about you, all of you. I get that it's weird because you feel like you don't know me. But I know you, just as well as my brother does. And believe it or not, you know me more than you think. There were plenty of times I was in the driver's seat..."
"Yeah, like we could forget those times," Sloane snapped and I bared my fangs at him and hissed. Fire danced on his fingers and I was going to snap all ten of them, heal them, then snap 'em again for good fucking measure.
"Sloane, back off," Fischer said over his shoulder, as he continued to look at the images on Cam's phone. The fire fucker looked almost hurt being put in his place by my brother, but he better get used to it because I wasn't ever going to shy away from telling him exactly how I felt.
Ignoring our moment of personal drama, Saige crossed the room and slid onto Cam's lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Are you okay?"
Cam kissed her and exhaled deeply. "Yeah. I can't believe he's alive. Talk about a total mindfuck. I thought he died along with my moms. I'm livid that he was taken from me, he should have been mine to raise. Now it's been several years and I'm scared at what he's been through. What they did to him, what does he believe? Does he think I abandoned him? Fuck... It's killing me not to reach out to him, but I wanted to discuss it as a group first before making any decisions. Palmer is on an undercover assignment now so we can't use her as a middleman, unfortunately."
"I say you contact him as soon as possible, boss. It's been too fucking long and you two always had a special bond. Everything will be okay, but we need to get him away from Montague." Kai said and everyone nodded in agreement.
"Okay," Cam breathed, his leg bouncing with excitement and likely, nerves. "I'll contact him when we're done talking."
Saige leaned in and kissed his cheek, smiling at him with tears in her eyes. "I'm so happy for you," she whispered, a lone tear sliding down her cheek.
"Don't cry, baby girl. I can't handle it," Cam said gruffly, using his thumb to swipe the wetness away.
"I think we should do some training," Kai suggested, Napoleon nodding his little mouse head from his shoulder perch.
"That's a great idea. Faris definitely needs to see what he's capable of and we can test out our new abilities too. We can't get sloppy," Fischer added. He had a point. Anyone could show up here and try to fuck shit up. I wanted to be at the top of my game in order to do my part.
"Red needs to join us," Sloane said and Saige gave him the finger.
He held his hands up, with an attempt at innocence that he'd never be able to fool me with. "Hey now," Sloane chuckled. "You do need to get more familiar with your demon half. I'd also like to train you on wards and protection spells, if you’d be interested in doing that with me?" His cheeks tinted a little bit. Fucker was blushing?Well, lick my virgin booty hole and call me Sally.
Saige grinned at him. "Yeah, I'd like that. Thanks," she replied.
"Anything else to get out on the table?" Cam asked, and Saige squirmed on his lap.
"What is it, baby?" Cam asked her gently.
"Umm, well... I was talking with Gran outside. About... Laurie. She thinks we should let the authorities handle her. I agree. I know you're all thirsty for blood and vengeance, and I am too, but I can't do that to my grandmother. I just want justice for what she did to all of you, to Fischer." She looked up at him and her eyes started watering again. Gods, I never wanted her to cry again. It made me feel all weird in my stomach.
"I think you know that we'll support you no matter what, sweetheart. How do you think your dad will handle it, though?" Fish asked bluntly and I had to admit I was wondering the same thing. Khol wanted her deader than dead.
"I'll handle him. I just don't want you guys to be upset with me." Her eyes dropped to her lap and she fiddled with the hem of her shirt. I took it upon myself to squeeze beside her on Cam’s lap and started to run my fingers through her hair. Soft as fucking sin.Mmm, smells like coconuts, too.
Cam grunted. “Are you serious right now, man?”
I glanced at Cam and continued slipping my fingers through the best texture I’d felt yet.Shiny, glittery, sparkly hair.“What? You have a lap that would turn Santa into an envious little elf. There’s a lot of ass space here. Don’t be stingy, it’s rude.”
The big Santa wannabe opened and closed his mouth as everyone else laughed. Some of the tension in Saige’s shoulders vanished and it gave me a sense of accomplishment, like I belonged.
“Lowkey wanna see you dressed up as Santa this year…” Kai said, as he winked at Cam. Cam flipped him off with a low chuckle.
The mood got serious again and Sloane refocused the conversation on what our girl had been saying before. She had nothing to worry about, we could never stay upset with her.
"I'm not upset, Red. I just don't want her getting another opportunity to hurt anyone. She's a danger to society. Not just us. When someone's moral compass is busted, they're a loose cannon with nothing to lose," Sloane explained his reasoning and damn him, I agreed.
"We can call WISP, the Witch Investigative Service Patrol. They should be able to get some agents out here relatively soon to take her into custody," Cam said.
"Okay, thank you. I appreciate it so much," Saige replied, relief clear in her tone. "She hasn't given up any information from what I was told. Maybe they'll have more luck."
"What else do we need to do today?" Bram asked, standing and brushing non-existent wrinkles from his snug hunter green henley. Damn.
"Well, I need to run into town. I'm gonna swing by the shop and talk to my d—" She cleared her throat. "Talk to Khol, alone. I need to talk to the Seers, too. And we need groceries. You guys never stop eating," she teased and Kai rubbed his belly.
