"Uh oh. Red has an idea," Sloane grumbled, sipping his beer. "I've seen that look before. It doesn't lead anywhere good."
"How about we play truth or dare?"
Kai perked right the hell up at that suggestion. "Ooooh, I like where your head's at, Sprout. I vote for that."
"What happens if we don't answer the truth or complete the dare?" Bram asked.
"You drink. Duh," Saige said, tossing a wink at the big demon.
"I'm down." Fish cracked his knuckles and grinned.
"Sounds dangerous. I love danger. Except in moving vehicles. Not a fan of that," Faris added as he popped a handful of something into his mouth and crunched loudly. I squinted to see what he was eating.
“I see you eyeing my goodies, big daddy. These babies are mine.” Faris hugged his snack to his chest.
“What are they? The crunching is so damn loud,” Sloane muttered.
“These are what feed my soul,” Faris announced, flashing his fangs at Sloane while proudly displaying the cup of EasyMac. Sloane recoiled in disgust.
“You’re eating them raw?” Fish asked, peering over at his brother with curiosity.
Faris nodded before popping a few more into his mouth.
“Noooo! Help. Bram, help! Pleath! I’ve been muthled,” Faris shouted, a panicked expression taking over his previously satisfied face.
“What?” Saige jumped up at the same time as Bram, and they hurried over to Faris.
“You’ve been what?” Bram asked, squatting down and attempting to take away his cup of dry noodles. Faris didn’t relinquish his hold on his treasure though so Bram had to pry it out of his hands. When a sudden jerk caused the remaining noodles to fly into the air and rain down like confetti, Kai and I looked at each other and nearly pissed ourselves laughing.
“Muthled. Ook.” Faris grinned and his fangs had slipped in the hole of the macaroni noodles so he was sporting one on each tooth.
“Muzzled,” Kai roared with laughter. “He’s been muzzled!”
Fischer and Saige were now both rolling with laughter at the sight of the scary blood mage with pasta-capped fangs.
“By the moon, Faris. Hold still, for fuck’s sake,” Bram cursed, reaching for his mouth.
“Just when I think I’ve seen it all,” Sloane chuckled.
Bram freed Faris from his entrapment. “Thank you, you’re my hero.” Faris batted his eyes at Bram, and I watched as the big demon blushed. “But you also owe me a new cup of noodles. You can replace this lost cause with a new container from the store. Tomorrow is fine. We have a game to play now. So, truth or dare?” Faris rubbed his hands together, leaving Bram gawking at him like he was an exotic creature at the zoo. Saige grabbed Bram’s hand and led him back to the couch.
"Yes, let’s do this," Kai said, leaning back on the couch and stretching out like the cat he was on the inside.
"Fine," Sloane added and Saige stuck her tongue out at him.
"Alright then. Let's do this. Saige, you can ask someone first,” I told her and then got comfortable in my spot.
I swear her eyes sparkled with mischief as she scanned the room, before landing on Sloane.
"Oh great. I should've known," he muttered, but I didn't miss the small grin on his face.
Saige was sitting on the arm of the couch, one hand on her hip and a radiant smile that told me how much fun she was already having. We were just getting started. We all needed this—down time, time to connect as a group, just some damn fun. Even if it was only for a night.
"Sloane, truth or dare?"
"Dare."
Kai and Fischer both started with their "oooooohs” and “ahhhhhs" which earned them each a middle finger from the fiery mage.
