"Did you... Did you just come again?" I asked when he stopped shaking and I couldn't help it, really. Another laugh bubbled out at the way his eyes narrowed to slits, so similar to his dragon form.
"Shit, Red... I just keep shooting, every damn squeeze and it's like a waterfall. Feels so fucking good. This is the kind of sex Bram is used to? That lucky fuckerrrr," he groaned the last word when I deliberately squeezed my thighs together.
"Only sex that demon has had in decades is with me, but you're right. He is a lucky fuckerrrrr," I mocked him, trying to mimic his gruff voice.
"You are such a brat. And to think, I made love to you like a proper boyfriend," he tsked and shook his head.
"That's probably why my inner brat is acting up, she doesn't know how to act right now." I winked and adjusted myself as well as I could, being pinned beneath him.
"How long will we be like this?" Sloane asked and I sighed, shaking my head.
"No idea. Bram and I were joined for a couple of hours the first time," I told him. We didn't have a couple of hours to be locked together like this. The fire hadn't escaped my mind.
"I can't believe my cock just got even bigger," Sloane said under his breath and I rolled my eyes.Men.
"Don't worry, I'm sure your ego didn't inflate at all," I teased and then squealed as Sloane rolled us so he was on his back and I was perched on top of him like some kind of perverted parrot.
"Can you reach my jeans? My phone is in the pocket." He pointed off to the left and we both kind of leaned and shimmied so I could snag them. I handed them over and he fished out his phone, sighing when he saw there weren't any messages yet.
"It's taking them a long time—do you think everything’s okay?"
"My gut tells me they're fine. They likely needed to speak with the authorities." His face darkened and I felt a bolt of unease hit me in the chest. "Those WISP agents should be in town, maybe they are there with them. That's good if that's the case. What happened when you got in the barn, Red?"
"Not much, honestly. Laurie was gone when I got there. I dropped the stuff I was carrying from shock, I think. From there I just had a bad feeling, obviously. When I saw a shadow move near the barn door, I ducked into a stall and was able to slip through the side door that the goats used. Then Bryce intercepted me and I took off. You know the rest."
"I ran into Laurie in the woods. That's why I wasn't here as fast as I should have been. I thought she knew where you were..." Sloane trailed off and I felt nauseous. Something had happened.
"Did you kill her?"
"No. Almost. I wanted to, Red. Fuck, I wanted to so damn bad. Then you screamed and nothing else mattered except getting to you. I knocked her out before I took off but I would be shocked if she was still there now. But she said something just before I intended to end her life." Sloane's icy blue eyes looked almost white in the light of the moon, making him look otherworldly. The way he softened his voice immediately put me on edge. My nerves made themselves known with the way goosebumps rose on my flesh and my mouth went dry. I couldn't find my voice so I just nodded instead.
"She said if I killed her, I'd never find her. I assumed she'd meant you, but she didn't. She told me you have a sister, Red. A sister that only she knows how to find."
If words had the ability to physically wound a person, I'd be covered in little cuts from all of the terrible things Laurie had said to me during my life. The backhanded compliments, comments on my body shape, everything I did. This news though, finding out I had a sister? She had another fucking child? Is that who she spent her time with when she was supposed to have been raising me? My mind was exploding, running through a million different scenarios at rapid speed.
"Hey, shhh, come here," Sloane whispered softly, like he was trying not to spook me.
I collapsed on top of him and buried my face against his neck. I loved his scent. He’d always had a particular smell, but it was much stronger now. Campfire and man. Strong and safe. Mine.
"I know it's hard, but maybe she was lying. Or maybe this potential sister doesn't even know about Laurie, or you. It's possible she gave the same treatment to her as she did to you. I can't see that woman being maternal toward anything. Hell, she'd probably find some way to hurt a rock's feelings. We'll figure it out," he rumbled and ran his hands over my back in soothing patterns.
"I hate her," I whispered, tears stinging my eyes, which was starting to feel like the new normal for me. Always crying.
"Me too. She'll get hers, though. Just like that asshole," Sloane growled, gesturing over to the spot where Bryce had met his demise and I squeezed him tightly with my arms. It was awkward given the position we were in, but I really just wanted to hug the guy. "There's something else..."
"Of course there is," I joked without humor. I was over the constant stress.
"My dad died," Sloane said and I froze.
"What? When?"
"Probably earlier today? I didn't ask. You know I've been getting those calls... I guess he was sick and had been trying to reach me. Well, tonight the prison left me a voicemail and that must have been when Bryce was able to sneak around outside. I was distracted... I'm sorry."
"Sloane, your dad died. Of course you got distracted. You act like you're not allowed to be a normal person. You always hold yourself to these impossible standards," I sighed and ran my fingers over his forehead, smoothing the faint wrinkles that were forming due to his frowning.
"That's who I am, Red. I've always had this... need to strive for perfection. Not to be weak," he chuckled and looked away.
"Hey, don't hide from me. I see you. I've always seen you."
