Cam turned slowly in his chair, and I lifted my gaze to Hunter. By the stars, he was stunning. Tattoos swirled down his arms, up his neck, across his knuckles.I guess the Jacobs boys have a thing for ink.
“Hunter,” Cam rasped.
“CJ... Fuck. I can't believe it's you,” Hunter said, studying Cam with intensity. Like he wasn't sure if what he was seeing was real. I couldn't see Cam's face, but I imagined it looked the same.
Both men moved at the same time, like a rubber band snapping and hurtling them together. They collided in an embrace that would've crushed me like a peanut. They were talking softly as they hugged; I couldn't hear their words, but I saw Hunter wipe his eyes. Suddenly, I felt like an intruder on a very private and special moment.
Kai whined as he danced around in place, clearly itching for his turn to get his hands on Hunter.
I sighed as I felt Bram's lips press against my neck, his way of reminding me he was here with me. I must've been louder than I thought because Hunter's eyes darted to mine, and then lower to where Bram's lips were tracing my skin.
Kai's patience was gone and he launched himself across the room, tackling both Cam and Hunter to the ground, creating one big mess of limbs and laughter. Fischer joined their pile by belly flopping right on top.
“Dammit, I can't breathe! You assholes have gotten huge,” Hunter laughed, attempting to push all of the guys off. “Where's Sloane?”
“That's whose ass I want to kick,” Cam clarified, standing up and helping the others off the floor.
Hunter chuckled. “I see some things haven't changed.”
I slid off Bram's lap, taking a breath to give myself some confidence. Cam looked back and smiled at me, holding his arm out in invitation. “Little brother, this is Saige Wildes.”
I looked up at Hunter, who was every bit as large as his older brother. His green eyes twinkled and the color matched Cam's perfectly. “Nice to meet you, Hunter,” I said, extending my hand.
He slipped his large one into mine. “This is your house?” he asked, and I nodded. “Love the retro vibe.” Hunter winked at me, and a growl erupted from Kai that scared the shit out of me. I dropped Hunter's hand like it was on fire.
“What the fuck, Kai?” Hunter asked in confusion.
“Mine,” Kai replied, lip lifting in warning.
Oh no.
I could already see the wheels turning in Hunter's head. “What? This one's yours?” He stepped closer, and I squeaked when he wrapped his arms around me with a grin. “Looked to me like she's his.” Hunt pointed at Bram, who was now standing.
Sweet baby moon rocks... Please don't let this end in a fight.
I heard the sounds of a scuffle—along with some nasty growls from Kai—as I was pulled out of Hunter's arms and against Cam, my back to his front. Looking up between the two men, I watched Hunter's eyes widen slightly as Cam placed a hand on my waist and used his other to lace our fingers together.
“She'sours, baby brother,” Cam clarified. “And I wouldn't provoke Kai. She's his fated mate. As for the redhead? He's a demon. They're also mated.”
I thought my face was going to melt with how hot I felt at that moment.
But it wasn't me who had Hunter's attention anymore. “What. The. Fuck?” he demanded, shaking his head at something behind us. I stepped away from Cam and looked behind me to see what the issue was.
I stifled a snort when I saw Fischer and Faris holding Kai between them. Hunter had been around these guys for the first ten years of his life, so I imagined that suddenly seeing another Fischer would be quite the shock.
Fish huffed. “It's a long story.”
“I'm Faris. The more attractive Bahri twin.”
“In your dreams,” Fish bantered back with an eye roll.
“You're both pretty,” Gran piped up, speaking for the first time in several minutes, and both Bahri boys shot her panty-melting grins.
“Twins?” Hunter said faintly, looking between the two men. “And a demon? What the fuck have you gotten into, CJ?”
“Like Fish said, it's a long story,” Cam told his brother. “Want to go somewhere and catch up? There's still other shit happening, but I have a feeling you might be able to help.”
I really hoped Hunter could shine a light on the inner workings of Montague Industries. I knew I wasn’t the only one here who was sick and tired of being caught unaware. Annie was out there somewhere, and I would go through whoever I had to in order to get her back here, where she belonged.
