All of a sudden, I realized I was upright. I was standing. I glanced down, noticing that my ankle was now healed. And the rage, I was feeling it now. It wasn’t just my own, either. I could feel Cam’s anger, and despite Kai’s concern for me, his fury felt just as potent.
“I can feel you both. Your emotions...” Looking around the room, I spottedhim, the guard, lying on the floor where he’d been tossed. Slowly, so fucking slowly, my head tilted to the side as I pondered all of the things I wanted to do to him.
Kai cleared his throat. “Uh, Fish? Your eyes, man. They’re black.”
My lips tugged at the corner as I surveyed my victim. “Get out.”
“What? What do you mean, get out?”
“Come on, K.” I heard Cam moving through the small room. “Fischer has a score to settle. We’ll be in the hall. We need to get moving soon though, before someone spots us.”
Somehow, I managed a barely-there nod of acknowledgement that I’d heard his words and understood.Don’t take too long. They left the room and shut the door behind them, leaving me and Don alone. When they’d knocked him out, he’d lost his shapeshifting form and reverted back to being this ugly fuck.
We’d been in this room together so many times before... Only this time, I was untied. I wasn’t injured. And I had my fucking magic.
I felt like I was floating across the room, my heart thrumming steadily as I moved toward him. Not too fast, not too slow. Steady. I was about to get the kill that I desperately wanted, and I felt nothing.
The sledgehammer he’d used to shatter my ankle was propped up against the wall. How convenient. My fingers were wrapped around the smooth wooden handle within the blink of an eye, and I peered down in disgust at the scum at my feet. I really wished I had more time to fuck him up beyond belief before I killed him, but I’d need days to satisfy that fantasy and right now I only had minutes.
The weight of the sledgehammer in my hand felt so perfect. I brought my other hand up, gripping the hammer firmly now as it rested on my shoulder. Don shifted slightly, and I waited. He was waking up and I needed him to see my face before he died. Thirty seconds must’ve passed as he just lay there, groaning.
Alright. This wasn’t working.
I let the hammer swing off my shoulder before bringing it up into a beautiful arc, throwing all of my weight behind it as I brought it down on his knee. His scream of agony was somewhat satisfying, but I was also sick of screams.
“Shut. The. Fuck. UP!” I barked, pushing my influence into his mind, effectively silencing the rapist piece of shit. Tears flowed down his face from wide, panicked eyes. I laughed when they got even wider, as he realized who had just shattered his knee. Pathetically, he tried to roll away. Ridiculous.
“There’s no escape for you.”
My head snapped to the door when it cracked open, barely an inch. “There’s guards coming, we gotta move,” Kai hissed through the door.
Sighing, I crouched down and sent my mental claws out, latching onto his psyche with ease. Then I pushed the commands.
‘Take the hammer.’
His hand slid around the handle.
‘You’re filth. Nothing but a worthless piece of shit who isn’t even worth the amount of time I’m gifting you with right now. You’re a rapist. Do you know what happens to rapists? They die. Gruesomely. I don’t think there’s a more poetic death than a rapist—someone who puts their hands on other people, even though that person despises their touch, even though they said no—dying by those hands that just don’t know when to stop.
‘So here’s what you’re going to do. I’m going to stand up and walk out of this room. The moment the door closes, you’re going to bring that sledgehammer down on your pathetic dick as hard as you can. I fucking mean it. Then, count to five and do the same thing to your free hand. Then both your feet. Then your dick again. And again. Then your ankles and knees. As. Hard. As. You. Can.
‘I swear to Jupiter, I’ll know if you don’t, and I’ll come back in here and it’ll be much, much worse. After you’ve shattered all of those bones, you’re going to take this sledgehammer and you’re going to shove the handle down your throat until you choke.
‘Feel free to scream in pain—nobody will come. They’ll think it’s me. Isn’t that funny?’
I smiled, and it was all teeth. Wicked and vicious. The guard was shaking, and the acrid scent of urine hit the air. I stood, reaching for the door.
“Get ready.” My hand wrapped around the door handle. “Get set.” I pulled it open and stepped through, letting the thick door slowly close. “Go!”
I slammed the door, and a thump followed by a scream met my ears, slightly muted by the thick walls. Turning, I found Cam and Kai staring at me.
Brushing my chest off, I returned their stares. “Where to next?”
We ran as quickly and as silently as possible, following Napoleon’s directions. He knew where Saige was, and that was all I cared about at the moment. It was pure luck, or possibly fate, that we’d seen that guard shapeshift into Sloane and ended up finding Fischer. Thank fuck, too. I shot a cursory glance at him over my shoulder and found his face impassive. Blank. Devoid of any kind of emotion.
That might be problematic later. In the past when he’d gotten like this, there wasn’t a whole lot anyone could do to bring him back out of his mind. Sloane was always the best option for that, but Sloane wasn’t here. And if that guard had been pretending to be Sloane... My stomach clenched at the thought. I’d seen Fischer fuck up plenty of men—it was our job. Whatever had happened back there, that was personal. When Fish was on an assignment, he operated with almost a clinical detachment from those he interrogated. But the way his eyes had lit up when he realized that guard was at his mercy had been chilling. He’d shown more emotion in that moment than he had when we walked into his cell.
Fuck, I was just thankful we had the vaccines and that there seemed to be enough for everyone. More than enough. Earlier, after Kai and I left the infirmary, Napoleon had led us to the pharmacy lab where we stuffed our pockets full of the vaccines I’d given to Kai. He’d injected me the second we found them. Fuck, it’d felt amazing to have my magic rushing back through my veins. I’d immediately reached out in my head for Saige and the others, but nothing happened. Likely because they were still under whatever wards this castle held over their magic. And without Fischer being a part of the link, I wasn’t sure it’d work anyway. Still, I had to try.
