Her eyes locked on my face, and awareness trickled in. The fierceness gave way to horror as she realized what she was doing. “Cam!” she cried. “I can’t make it stop. It’s too much.” I could barely get a breath into my lungs. The force of her power was unlike anything I’d felt before.
“Let go,” I rasped.
“Oh gods,” she cried, looking at her hands as if they were betraying her. My eyes widened as I saw the masked man approach her from behind. Ashland was walking slowly, using caution as he approached.
“Saige,” he said sternly. “You need to focus.” Tossing a look over her shoulder to see who was speaking, she took a step away from the demon. “I’m not going to hurt you. You’re hurting your mate right now; you don’t want to do that. I know your magic feels out of control, but it’s not. You are controlling it. It’s scary, but you need to push that away. You’re arguably the strongest person standing in this courtyard, and you have nothing to be scared of.”
Saige was shaking her head back and forth, as my vision started to tunnel. Black bled into the corners, with white stars popping each second. I was going to pass out soon. “Help me!” she cried out. “Please, help me.”
Ashland moved in closer. “It’s all you, girl. You’re the only one who can shut it down. Focus on my voice and take a breath.” I struggled to watch as she did what he suggested. Her breaths were choppy, verging on hysterical, but she tried. “That’s good,” Ashland’s deep voice praised. “You’re doing great. Now, you need to release Cam and focus this power where it belongs.”
My girl nodded her head, her breaths coming slower now. Just when I thought I was going to be lost, her magic receded and I was released. Air had never tasted as good as in that moment, and my knees hit the ground as I sucked in great gulping breaths.
“Cam! Oh gods!” she screamed, rushing over to me, joining me on the ground. Her tiny hands were rubbing all over my body, checking me for injuries. It was like she couldn’t believe I was actually here. “I’m so sorry,” she cried, huge tears leaking from her pretty green eyes.
“Baby girl, I’m so fucking glad to see you.” My hand wrapped around the back of her neck as I pulled her in and pressed my mouth to hers. Every fucking problem in the world ceased to exist in that moment. The way her soft lips melded to mine, the slight salty taste of her tears coating them as I snaked my tongue out and sank it into her mouth. Gods, I would never get enough of this woman. I wasn’t sure what I’d ever done to deserve her love but I was fucking grateful for it.
She whimpered into my mouth, still upset by what had just happened. I brought my hands to her face. Breaking the kiss, I rested my forehead on hers. “It’s not your fault. I’m fine. You’re fine. We’ll be okay. Fuck, baby, I love you so much. Do you hear me?”
“Yes. Yes, I hear you. My gods, Cam, I missed you so much. I love you.” Before either of us could say another word, the sound of multiple bodies hitting the ground echoed all around us.
Whipping my gaze over to the platform, I saw Asrael had his hands extended, having clearly just exerted some sort of power. My guess was that he was taking out anybody who wasn’t directly under his control. The Exiled were still standing, along with all of our family, and the dragon shifters. I saw Balor moving around the platform, injecting fallen guards and soldiers. This wasn’t over yet, and we would still need any help we could get—if not to fight, then to help with the wounded.
“Come on, baby. We gotta get up.” I pushed myself to my feet and scooped my woman up off the cold stone ground. My hand protectively fell to her belly, and my eyes widened as I felt movement within, sharp jabs and kicks. My girls. Fuck. Emotion was threatening to seize me, and I had to stuff it down because we needed to end this.
“Thanks for the help, Big Daddy,” Saige whispered, a small smile on her mouth.
“Well,” I said, “I figured this belly isn’t good for getting up off the ground. It’s a good thing you have such a big strong man here to take care of you.” It was totally not something I would ever normally say, but it had the effect I intended when she giggled.
A flash of red caught my eye over the top of my little witch’s head, and I caught sight of someone who had no fucking business being out here right now. In fact, she had no fucking business breathing air. With my eyes locked on her, I wasn’t going to let her out of my sight. Laurie causing issues today was the last fucking thing that we needed, and I wouldn’t hesitate to slit her throat this time.
“Come over here, baby,” I told Saige, wrapping my arm around her waist and hastily walking her over to the walkway that ran along the side of the castle. It was covered, and thanks to some strategically placed potted plants, she would be mostly hidden.
“What are you doing?” she asked. “You want me to hide?”
“I want you to be safe,” I replied, guiding her in. “Just wait right here for a minute. There’s something I need to go check on. This is all coming to an end very soon, and I need to know that you’re okay. Please stay here, Saige,” I begged, using her real name. “I can’t bear to lose you.” Emotions were warring in her big eyes as she stared up at me. “It’s not a weakness to be safe, baby girl. You’re strong and capable. After today, nobody will ever question that again, but things happen all the time that are out of our control. Things you don’t see coming until it’s too late. Please do this for me.”
“Okay,” she whispered. “I’ll stay here, but I swear to gods, Cam, the second I see any of you in trouble, all bets are off. I’m not losing anyone today either. No one is going to take you from me.”
I pressed a quick kiss to her mouth. “Thank you,” I whispered. Stepping away was the hardest thing that I’d done in my life, but it had to happen. I wasn’t going to let Laurie do whatever it was she had planned, because I knew that bitch always had plans.
I just hoped that I’d be able to catch her before she got the chance.
It had turned out to be a really good thing that I’d had all that practice over the last month with killing little bitches. I was unstoppable now. Every time one of their round faces popped up, ready to scramble onto the platform, my foot was there like I was playing kickball in the Olympics, and damn was I talented. My magic was back at full power and I was fast as fuck. The speed that I could now kick and punch and run was just so exhilarating. Plus, it made the blood splatter so much farther than anything I’d seen in the last four weeks. And in such pretty patterns too. It was really impressive.
My fist sailed into the face of a particularly hideous guard. Blood, teeth, and sweat flew off of his face, and I wondered for a moment if maybe I should pursue some type of passionate hobby work in the art of splatter painting. It wouldn’t have to all be done in blood. I mean, I could really fuck up some paint tubes, and just throw them at a canvas—boom, art.
I wonder what Firefly would think about that. Speaking of my woman... Damn, she was looking good today. I really wanted to make her come while I had my hands on that big belly. I’d let her sit right on my cock. She’d have to lean back a little bit to accommodate, but that was fine because our demon prince could stand right behind her, supporting her so her arms didn’t get tired. She’d just bounce to her little pregnant heart’s content. Yeah, I would definitely enjoy that.
I would still try to knock her up every time. I mean, the fact that she was already pregnant twice over, it really, uh… it hadn’t done anything to diminish my desire, and the thought of filling her up and knowing that my seed had taken root within her body? It was just as hot, though it didn’t matter that biologically the babies weren’t mine, because they were mine in every other sense of the word.
Mine. Ours.
I’d already decided that their first meal was going to be mac and cheese. I just wasn’t sure how that would go over with everybody else, since they were very opinionated on my diet for some reason. When really, it was none of their business to begin with. That was fine. I could be sneaky. It would be the girls and Papa Faris, having our little tea parties, and mac and cheese lunch. I would be their favorite. They could have little cups of tea or juice or water, then I would have a little teacup of their Mommy or Daddy Bram’s blood. I could see it now. Nothing but good days ahead.
Khol and Bram were kicking ass. We were like a special ops unit, and I was loving it. They kept trading barbs and insults with Asrael. I wasn’t really listening since I was too busy saving the day and killing people. I just wanted this to be over with. I couldn’t wait to tell Firefly about Number Fishty. I knew she would be really proud of me for my accomplishments.
A pained grunt caught my attention, and I spun around fast, my eyes darting around wildly for the source of that sound. When my eyes landed on Bram, and I saw three huge scratches across his chest with blood pouring out, something in me snapped. A sound that was pure beast, completely primal, exploded from my chest as I launched myself across the wooden platform like a frickin’ lion.
