A flash of sudden pain had me doubling over, this painful pressure in my abdomen hitting me like a sledgehammer.
“What the hell, brother?” Faris was beside me in an instant, encouraging me to speak. But I couldn’t.
What fresh fuckery is this?
I got my hands on my knees, and lifted my head in time to see Saige mirroring my position as we panted together. Horror dawned as we both realized at the same moment what was happening.
“What can we do, Goldie? Please, for the love of fuck, can someone tell me what to do here?!” Bram barked, as he paced a few steps and turned to pace back.
“You need to get Balor,” I grunted, and every one of my brothers turned to look at me.
Kai ran his hand up Saige’s arm soothingly. “What? Why?”
“Find Balor,” our woman gritted out. “Tell him to pack a bag because I’m going home.”
Silence. Utter silence.
“Oh gods. Okay. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. He’s got this whole sophisticated thing going for him and I really dig that, but I just don’t think he’s the right fit for our harem.” Faris crossed his arms and glanced around at us. “I’m willing to put it to a vote. All in favor, say aye.”
“What do you mean, you’re going home?” Bram asked, ignoring Faris completely.
“I mean...” She paused and took a deep breath. Her eyes met mine, and I felt the squeezing again, like a big rubber band around my waist. Sweet merciful fates. “Someone better get me to my own damn house right this instant and bring me my damn doctor, because I’m in labor.”
The contraction built, and I grimaced. Why in the hell was I being affected like this? Was I going to experience what vaginal birth felt like through my dick? No, no. I can’t do it.
“Oh. Yeah. Okay, the babies are coming...” Bram mumbled, as he stared off into space. “I’ll just go— Balor. Yeah...” He stumbled a few steps before vanishing to find the doctor.
“Sweetheart, your magic—what’s going on with your magic?” She’d been powerful before, but the display I’d just witnessed had been next level.
Her eyes flickered, green flashing to gold. “I’m still going to kill those fuckers. Just as soon as I get these babies out. It’s killing time!”
“Little witch, please sit down over here. Come on. Bram will be back soon.” Cam wrapped his arm around her waist and directed her to a long bench that was cut from stone. He draped a large towel around her, securing it beneath her arms.
Sloane was hovering while Kai and Faris seemed unable to keep themselves still. “Red, talk to us about the magic. Are you okay? It’s probably from that fucking vaccine,” he gritted out.
The tightening was coming on again. Fucking hell.
“I’m fine!” she snapped, leaning back against the wall and closing her eyes. “Where the fuck is Balor?!”
As if on cue, Bram and Balor both appeared out of thin air, the doc rushing to her side and taking her hand. “Tell me everything.”
“Tell you everything?” Kai scoffed. “She’s in fucking labor, man! Do something!”
Balor released a deep chuckle. “And what do you propose I do? There is only so much a doctor can do. Every woman’s labor runs at their own pace. This could go quickly or it could be days.”
“Days?” Saige all but groaned at that revelation when Balor nodded, confirming she’d heard right.
“She wants to go home, man. To her house. What do you advise?” Cam demanded, running his hands through his hair.
Balor paused for a moment, thinking. “I think the queen should be fine to deliver wherever she feels safest and most comfortable. I will prepare my medical bag and meet you in the king’s quarters in fifteen minutes.” Then he vanished.
“Firefly,” Faris whispered, dropping down next to her and trailing his fingers down her hair. “I love you.”
She gave a weak, but genuine smile. “I love you, Viper.”
My stomach began to cramp, and I watched as her face turned from happy to a grimace. “Get me home. Now!” She moaned in pain, and everyone sprang into action. We all gathered around her so that Bram could jump us out of there to grab some clothes and prepare to meet up with Balor.
Sloane’s gaze met mine, and his look of sheer terror nearly stole my breath. Reaching out, I laced our fingers together and felt some of the fear drain as he stared at our linked hands. Slowly, his eyes returned to my face, and I smiled.
