I raised both hands and flipped that son of a bitch off. “You can try and come on my face, fucker… but I guarantee you I’ll be marking your face first.”

Ashland released a sound that was bordering on feral as he stepped in front of me, his large body blocking out everything else. I felt his hand tremble as he gripped my chin, turning my face side to side as if inspecting me. “You just keep getting more and more delicious.”

Batting his hand away, I placed my hands on my hips and stared him down, despite being much shorter. “You mentioned rules?” I needed to know right away what I was dealing with here. It wouldn’t be a hardship to fuck any of them—they were all hot as sin, and if they actually fucked as dirty as they talked? Damn.

I really needed to keep my wits about me though. Their bodies had already bulked up, which would typically raise some red flags for a normal person. As far as I knew, they kept their true race a secret, and I was playing dumb at the moment.

“Mmm, yes. Those pesky little things. Do you have anything you want to say no to before we start?”

I blinked, and a huff of exasperation left my mouth. “I don’t even know exactly what I’m getting myself into here.”

Rhodes made a noise of disbelief. “I think you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. We fight, we fuck. Don’t worry though—we don’t fight women.”

Oh, that smug, monocle fuckhead. Just grin and smile at him.

“The safe word is the only way to make us stop,” Felix explained, adjusting himself with no shame. He was wearing the shortest pair of black boxer briefs, and every inch of him was covered in art. “Feel free to pretend you don’t want something that deep down, you really do. When we’re down here, everything is consensual. The safe word is the same for all of us.”

Wait, what?

Misha caught my surprised reaction and let out a soft chuckle as he pulled his hair up into a bun. And there it was, that little sliver of fear that I’d pushed away.

“Everyone is fair game, Bunny. You’re the special prey tonight, but we have a lot of energy to get out, and sometimes an adrenaline rush is just what’s needed.” Talon’s expression was playful, but in all the wrong ways. His dark tone didn’t match his facial expression, and it wasn’t the first time I’d noticed.

“So, what’s the safe word?”

Talon giggled. “Snails.”

“Snails,” I repeated slowly, making sure I heard that correctly.

Felix pointed at me and winked. “You got it, baby.”

"Enough bullshit. Let’s hunt.” Rhodes stripped down to his dark red boxer briefs and disappeared into the darkness.

Talon and Felix sighed in unison, and one of them mumbled, “He’s such a little preppy cunt sometimes.” They turned and made to follow the path Rhodes had taken.

“Wait!” I cried out. The twins turned in sync and cocked their heads at the same fucking time. Shit. They needed to chill with the creepy stuff. “How long does the hunt last?”

Talon shrugged. “It lasts as long as it lasts. Usually, until we can’t fuck anymore.”

Ashland shoved Talon playfully. “Hours, Bunny. We’ll count down from fifty. You better get a move on, because you smell like you’re in need, and when I catch you…” The big, blond demon made a sudden move and nearly caught me by the wrist as I spun out of his reach.

“Run, little rabbit,” Felix taunted. Then they all started howling, and an answering roar—from Rhodes, I assumed—rose from within the depths of the maze.

I ran. Each number that was called out during the countdown lit my blood on fire and had me pushing my bare feet faster. There were stacks of boxes, ladders, and rows of scaffolding—it was like an indoor spy course. My heart leapt at the nostalgic burst of excitement. We had run courses like this daily during training.

I was confident in my climbing skills, so I ran until I heard the number forty being shouted. All of the grips to climb were much taller than me, but that wouldn’t be an issue. I’d been running courses like this for years. I was fast, strong, and silent.

Grinning, I ran at full speed toward a crate, jumping on it and launching myself up, my fingertips just grazing the first metal rung on the scaffolding. The count was up to forty-five now, and I could feel my heartbeat in my temples as I pulled myself up using my arms, just enough to get my foot on the bar. From there, it was seconds before I was three levels up and the number fifty was bellowed from the guys below.

Not guys, Palmer. Demons. They’re fucking demons. Don’t forget it.

“Ready or not, Bunny! Here we come!” Ashland’s raspy voice was like an electric shock to my body as I stared out over the maze. Some parts were visible, though just barely. A few blue lights provided a touch of visibility, but it was getting foggy, like someone had set off a smoke bomb or an actual fog machine.

“But don’t worry, little Bun-Bun! You’ll be coming too!” Talon sang.

Fuck. I sank down on the wooden platform, tucking my legs beneath me. I hadn’t expected them all to fluster me so much, but that was part of the job. Training only got you so far. Actual targets were unpredictable and missions like these were risky. All things considered, tonight had gone way better than I could’ve imagined.

They were interested. Now I needed to figure out how to make them obsessed.
