“Finishing his project. He’s almost done, and I decided it was better to just let the fucking madman do his thing instead of damaging the lighthouse further.”

Once we reached the landing, the wooden floor expanded outward, creating a sort of loft. A kitchen and dining table were all that were on this level, but it was all high quality.

“Come over here, love. Let me see that hand.” I shuffled to where Ash was standing, next to a large kitchen island with a butcher block top. He grabbed my hips and lifted me without any effort, sitting my ass right on the island.

“The chairs over there would have sufficed, I think.” I pointed toward the dining table.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Are you the doctor here or am I?”

The laugh that slipped out couldn’t have been stopped, and our eyes collided. The surprise in his eyes at my laughter had me freezing up. He was so damn intense.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and shook my head. I was going to just roll with it. They were weird as fuck, sexy as hell, and evil as sin… I could fight it and potentially screw this entire mission, or I could embrace the crazy and roll with it. Let loose, as Ash had said in the car.

“Fine. What’s the prognosis, doc?”

A slow grin spread across his face, making him look angelic, in a monstrous way. “Well, I’ll need to take a closer look.” He flipped my hand over and slowly unwrapped the towel, causing me to wince as he pulled the fabric away from the cut. “Hmm.”

“Hmm what? What does hmm mean?”

“It’s pretty deep. Sliced yourself good. I better clean it.” He turned and opened a cupboard, removing a few bottles that I couldn’t quite see. “Here we go.”

“Tequila and vodka? We getting drunk?”

“One is for you to drink, the other is to clean that hand. It appears Lixy doesn’t have much in his first aid kit, so this will have to do. Can you handle it?”

I tilted my head and smirked at his cocky ass. “I can handle anything.”

“Oh, love. I knew that the moment I laid eyes on you last night. Now, put your hand over here—hold it over the sink.” He opened the bottle of tequila and handed it to me. “Drink some of that.”

I brought the bottle to my mouth, downing several gulps and feeling the instant warmth spread throughout my body. My palm was throbbing now, and I knew it was only going to get worse in a few seconds. I took another healthy swig. “Aren’t you having any?”

Ash removed the top of the vodka bottle. “What kind of doctor would I be if I drank on the job?”

I giggled.

Full stop. Oh fuck.I could hear the theoretical brakes screeching in my head. I was not a giggler.

“That was cute,” he said, booping me on the nose. I swear to gods my eye twitched, and I found myself eyeing the knife block. “You’re all over the place, aren’t you, little rabbit?”

“Thinking about slicing you up and puttingyouall over the place, to be honest.” Ash gave a full-bellied laugh and tipped the vodka bottle, splashing my hand. I hissed like a feral cat and swung at him with my other hand. He stepped back at the last minute, effectively dodging me. “Motherfucker!”

“I prefer bunny-fucker, if I get a choice.”

I cradled my stinging hand to my chest and took a few deep breaths. “That was worse than I thought it would be. Not gonna lie.”

“Have another drink. I’m going to try to heal it next and if I can’t, well, you won’t like what comes after that.”

I was downing more tequila before he finished his sentence. “Okay, let’s do this.”

He took my hand once more and brought my palm to his face. What the heck is he—

His tongue snaked out. His very long, abnormallylong, tongue. A feather-soft pressure made goose bumps erupt all over my skin as he traced the cut ever so gently with his tongue.

“The fuck are you two doing?” a voice boomed from my left. My head snapped around, and I saw Felix climbing into the space from the window. He was shirtless and covered in paint. His eyes tracked Ash’s tongue, zeroing in on my hand.

A deep rumble came from Ash as he stared at Felix, never stopping the movements of his tongue. “Hey!” I snapped at Ash, tugging my hand away from him. “We don’t growl at people like that.”

“I’ll growl at whoever I want, whenever I want.”
