Misha shrugged. “It’s his superpower.”

“To stun every person he encounters so thoroughly that they question their own sanity?”

Ashland threw his head back and laughed. “Ya know, that about covers it, little rabbit.”

Talon lifted two middle fingers. “Suck my ass. What are you? A couple of wiseguys?” His smirk told me he wasn’t actually offended. I didn’t want to see what Talon could be like if he was actually pissed.

“Right, well, now that you’ve all met Snake, it won’t be surprising when you see him around. Just don’t eat any pickles or Skittles when he’s around. He has literally poked children in their eyes with those little hands to steal food, and that stuff, in particular, makes him go rabid. Trust me on this. He will fuck you up.” I glanced over at Snake, who was now sitting on the counter, looking around at the guys. His ears flicked, and I stepped back. “See? He knows what I’m saying. He heard the words, so now he’s on high alert.”

They all looked at me like I was insane. That was fine though, because I’d be the one laughing and saying “I told you so” when they were walking around with face scratches and bite marks.

“So, what’s the plan today?” Felix asked before taking a bite of his fries.

Talon sat up again. “It’s fight night! Rhodes is back at Haunt, preparing.”

“Wait, I thought fight night was tomorrow night?” I was positive it was.Why did they change the date?

Ashland and Felix laughed, and Misha stared at me like I was missing a few marbles. “Love, it already is tomorrow. You slept like the dead. A whole day.”

“What? There’s no way. That isn’t possible,” I sputtered, looking at the windows and seeing the sunlight. “I never sleep that long.”

Ash shrugged. “Guess you needed it then.”

That made no sense. From my best guess, I would’ve fallen asleep just after two. I thought it had only been a few hours. “What time is it?”

“Eleven now. You woke up around eight-thirty,” Talon supplied.

I had no idea how I’d slept so long, then woken up without even realizing it was a new day. That had never happened before... but there wasn’t much I could do about it now. Had they drugged me somehow? Knocked me out so they could go do whatever nefarious shit they didn’t want an audience for?

“You okay?” Misha was leaning against the fridge, staring at me.

“Huh?” I shook my head, trying to clear the fog I felt. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m good. So what happens on fight night?” I reached out to Snake, who was adjusting to his surroundings and currently sniffing the counters hard enough to make himself light-headed.

“Only the best entertainment these parts have to offer!” Ash boasted, spreading his arms wide.

Felix stood and dropped his food container into the trash. “Fight night is whatever you want it to be. Gangs from the surrounding cities come, and beef is settled in the ring. You don’t need to worry though—you’ll be safe as long as you stay close and don’t wander off.”

I crossed my arms. “Damn. You guys are seriously misogynistic. Stay by my side, little woman. Don’t try to fight, girl. You couldn’t possibly defend yourself, silly female.”

“Uhh, I don’t think anyone said that.” Talon threw a confused look at the others.

“Oh please. It’s not something you have to say directly. It’s all about how you act. And when you guys act like I’m some delicate flower, it makes me want to kick you in the balls.”

Felix grimaced. “Hey, I was just trying to put your mind at ease. Fight night is a lot, and we don’t recommend thatanyonewalk around alone. Man or woman. Demon, witch, human. Doesn’t matter. It would be stupid as fuck not to listen. Got it?”

Oh, Felix wants to be authoritative now?

“Let it go,kukola,” Misha whispered, and something about the seriousness of his gaze made me back down. There was something more to this for Felix. I was going to find out what it was.

“Okay then. I won’t wander off. One problem though... I don’t have any clothes to wear to this thing. I don’t have any clothes at all right now, actually. Can we do something about that?” I pointed to the towel still covering my body.

Talon shot Misha a look. “The fuck, man? You didn’t give her the stuff?”

Misha’s cheeks reddened a little. “Got distracted.”

“Yeah, we heard. And saw.” Felix grabbed a towel and a bottle of cleaning spray and began cleaning all the surfaces, eyeing Snake apprehensively.

“What stuff?” I looked at Misha expectantly. He sighed and walked over to the front door. It was only then I noticed the shopping bags. A lot of fucking shopping bags. I followed Misha, feeling the others’ eyes on me as I approached the big guy.
