Jasper tilted his head and looked pointedly at the ties that were binding me to the cross. “I’d say you were already in a precarious position before I showed up.”

An idea came to me, and it was hard not to get my hopes up. But if Jasper wasn’t like other ghosts, then maybe...

“Hey, do you think you could untie me?”

He pushed off the wall and sauntered over to me. “I’m a ghost. I haven’t been able to touch or feel anything since I died.”

I shook my head in frustration. “I know that. I know more about ghosts than I care to. My point here is that you’re different. Did you know that? At first I thought you were just like any other spirit, but you’re not really decomposing and your mind seems intact. I’ve never seen that before. So, it’s worth a shot, don’t you think?”

“I think you’re going to be disappointed.” And yet, he reached for my wrist. Both of us seemed to be holding our breath in anticipation. This is stupid,” he muttered.

“Just try, okay? If it doesn’t happen, then we’re no different than we are right this second. But if it does?”

An icy sensation tickled the soft skin of my wrist, and I sucked in a breath, my wide eyes snapping to his. Soft, barely there pressure against my skin... but I felt it. I felt him.

“By the moon,” he whispered, staring at the point of contact with wonder. “How is this possible? Your skin, it’s like silk…” He dragged two fingers down the underside of my arm, spreading more of that chilly sensation, though it seemed to be lessening the longer he touched me.

“Jasper,” I gasped, noticing the color returning to his skin. “What’s happening right now?”

“A miracle…” He made his way to my face, and I saw the way his hand trembled as he brushed his fingertips against my cheek, his expression one of awe as he searched my face. “Incredible.”

Color was coming back to his form, showing me his pale skin, the way his cheeks turned a deep shade of red, and his pretty eyes that were a deep, pine green interspersed with flecks of light brown. They reminded me of a forest of Christmas trees.

“Jasper, can you undo the ties?” I knew he was having a big moment, but I really wanted out of here before those fuckheads came back.

“Oh, right.” He blinked a few times, snapping out of whatever trance he’d been in. I held my breath when he grabbed the ties, and could’ve cried with joy when he actually began undoing them. “This is insane. It shouldn’t be possible. I wonder…” He dropped the knot he was working on, leaving me still tied up, and walked over to the side table. I watched him try to pick up a dildo with no luck at all. His hand moved right through it. Even his color looked as if it was fading again.

“Why isn’t it working now?” He looked to me like I had answers, which I didn’t. I was just as confused as he was. I had never in all my life turned a ghost corporeal. “So, it’s connected to you. You have the ability to make me whole.”

I shook my head. “I have no idea why this is happening, but no, I don’t have that ability. Dead is dead. I can communicate and I can help you cross. That’s it.”

He pointed at me. “But that isn’t completely true, is it? What about your little furry friend? ‘Dead is dead’ didn’t apply to him, did it?”

“He’s an animal. It’s not difficult for me to reanimate animals. You’re a spirit without a body. There’s nothing there for me to reanimate! Now can you please untie me and we can continue this discussion afterward?”

“Sure, but I want to make a deal. If you’re the only thing I can physically touch, or I can only feel things if you’re also touching them, I want thirty minutes a day.”

“Thirty minutes of what?!” I pulled against my binds, hoping he’d loosened one of them enough that I could slip my wrist out.

“Uninterrupted touch time.”

“Are you nuts? I don’t have a spare thirty minutes to let you feel me up. That’s ridiculous and you know it.”

He crossed his arms. “Fine. Looks like you’re stuck here. I’ll see ya around.”

I could’ve hissed, I was so pissed off. “Wait, wait. Don’t go. I’ll give you ten minutes a day. No touching my tits, ass, or pussy. Got it?”

“Fifteen minutes.”

“Ugh, fine. Get me out of here.”

Jasper was all big smiles as he practically skipped back over to me and began untying me. Once the final knot was released, I was ready to move, but first things first. I dashed over to the bench that held my weapons. After securing those babies to my thigh, I glanced around and then lifted a brow at Jasper. “There has to be another way out of here that doesn’t involve going through that door.”

“There is. It’ll cost you though.” Excitement laced his tone, and I groaned. I hated being indebted to anyone.

“If you weren’t already dead, I’d be very tempted to kill you right now.”

“I’ll get you out of here, unseen, for five minutes added to my daily total. Twenty touch minutes, total.”
