"Fuck yeah! I'm basically a scientist now." I struck a pose, which earned me another eye roll from Rhodes. He was just jealous. He wanted to be head scientist. Too bad.

Saige approached our little gathering, and I straightened up automatically. Something about her just commanded respect, even from my chaos-loving ass. "The dragons are in position." I saluted her, and she returned the gesture with a smirk. "Are we ready?"

"Almost," Ash replied, adjusting some dials on what looked like a fancy pressure cooker. "Talon, you'll need to signal the timing; the fire needs to come the second the gas turns so purple it’s almost black. Your reflexes are the fastest."

My chest puffed up with pride. Finally, something I could do besides make inappropriate comments and questionable faces! "You got it, boss man."

We positioned ourselves around the clearing, the dragons perched at strategic points like the world's most badass chess pieces. The vapor container sat in the center, looking deceptively innocent for something that could potentially free an entire city of mind-controlled victims.

"Remember," Sloane's deep voice resonated through the space, "dragon fire is not like normal fire. It carries magical properties that could either make this work perfectly or blow us all to kingdom come."

"Well, that's fucking festive," I muttered, earning a snort from one of the nearby dragons. Hey, at least someone appreciated my commentary.

Sloane told everyone to stand back, and he shifted into a dragon. Fucking show off. Once he was in position right next to me, Ash gave the signal, and I raised my hands, feeling the weight of responsibility settle on my shoulders. It was an uncomfortable feeling, like wearing someone else's underwear. Not that I'd know anything about that. Usually.

"On my mark," I called out, uncorking the container and watching the purple vapor as it began spiraling up from its container. The dragons tensed, their massive forms coiling with potential energy. "Three..."

My eyes locked onto the rising purple wisps.

"Two..."

The dragons inhaled deeply, their chests glowing with internal fire.

"One..."

Everything seemed to slow down, like time itself was holding its breath. The purple shades darkened to a darkness that reminded me of the sky during a full moon.

"NOW!"

Five streams of dragon fire converged on the vapor at precisely calculated angles, creating a spectacular light show that would've made any rave jealous. The purple smoke transformed into a brilliant golden mist that expanded outward in a perfect sphere.

"Holy shit," I breathed, watching the transformed vapor rise and spread. "We actually did it."

"Don't celebrate yet," Rhodes cautioned, but I could hear the excitement in his voice as he separated the vapor into five separate vials. "We still need to test it."

Saige stepped forward, her eyes reflecting the golden light. "If this works, we'll have a real chance against Asrael's army of mind-controlled subjects."

I couldn't help but grin, watching our creation dance through the air like liquid sunshine. "Well, hot damn, Milady. Looks like we're about to start a revolution."

And if there's one thing demons excel at, it's causing absolute fucking mayhem. This was going to be fun.

Saige smiled widely. "We cannot fail! Today is the end of Asrael's tyranny and meddling in Besmet!"

Everyone began cheering, myself included. The air next to me whooshed, and then there was a butt ass naked Sloane clapping as he stared at Saige.

"Your mate's something else," I admitted.

Sloane's chest puffed with pride. "She's everything."

And that right there? That's what I wanted to know more about. That absolute certainty. That bone-deep knowing.

Maybe after we saved the world, I'd finally understand what that felt like.

But in the meantime, I had to let Sloane know his dick was out.

"Hey buddy, hate to be the one to tell ya this, but… your dick is out. Like, wayyyy out."

Misha walked up and nodded in agreement.
