WE LIE WRAPPED in eachother’s arms. When Barker moves, I grip his arms. “Don’t leave me.”
He kisses my head. “I’m not going anywhere.” He pulls the blanket over her shoulders.
I know I have to go back to my room. And I will. In a minute. I feel so good. It’s been so long since I’ve felt wanted like this. Or protected with his arms around me.
That’s the last thing I remember before knocking jerks me awake.
“Uncle Barker! Have you seen mommy?” Clara’s voice rips me from my sleep.
Chapter Six
BARKER
––––––––
Shooting pain in myjaw rips me from my sleeping slumber.
“Shit. Sorry.” Lauren rubs my chin before jumping out of my bed. The pain vanishes when I realize she’s looking for her pyjamas.
“What are you do-“ Lauren’s hand clamps over my mouth. God, she feels so damn good.
She mouths, the girls are right there.
“Uncle Barker?!”
Fuck.
I remove Lauren’s hand, but not before pressing a kiss to her palm. Her shy, sweet smile warms my heart. But it only lasts a single second, before she’s pulling her shirt over her head.
“Just a second, girls!” I yank jeans up my legs.
Lauren’s eyes are wide saucers. “I’m going to the deck,” she whispers passing by me.
“We can’t find mommy.”
