He watches me with hooded eyes as he drives one powerful thrust after another. Pumping and grinding. Rough and hard. Not holding back. No sweetness. No lovemaking. And he stands by his word because after the final thrust, he crawls into bed with me, and I fall asleep in his strong arms.

The following day knocking wakes me.

“Elsie? You decent?” Sammy’s voice pierces the door.

 Shit!

I sit straight up and slap Silver.

 “What the hell?”

I pounce on top of him and cover his mouth. “Shut up. Sammy is out there,” I hiss. “Get up. Hide.”

I expect an arrogant argument. I don’t expect Silver to dash to the bathroom with his morning wood erect and ready. But thankfully, he does.

“Coming.” I slip on a housecoat and then trip over Silver’s wet jeans on the carpet. “Shit,” I whisper, grabbing them and opening the bathroom door to throw them inside.

“Come here.” Silver catches me, pins me against the wall, opens my housecoat, and his mouth latches onto my nipple.

The sensation first thing in the morning has wetness pooling between my legs.

“Stop it.” I shove his grinning lips off and rush to answer the door.

“Good morning. I’m sorry I woke you.” He hands me a coffee. “Remember, one a day while I’m gone.”

He’s managed to ruin my morning coffee before I even sip it. “I do remember. I’ve been drinking a coffee a day for five months now.”

He grins. “I’m sorry. Listen, I’m heading out. I’ll be back in five days. I texted your sister and told her I was leaning.”

“Why? I’m fine here.” The few times I’ve seen my sister, we’ve given each other the cold shoulder.

“I didn’t want you to be alone.”

I try not to blush and act casual. “I’m sure I’ll be fine. Silver’s here.”

“About that, he’s taking off today.”

The air leaves my chest. “What are you talking about?”

 “He could already be gone.”

“Why would be already be gone? Was he buying some building equipment or...”

“We got into a fight last night, and one thing led to another, and he shouted he was taking off. Back to the rodeo. I’m not surprised. He was born to ride.”

I’m surprised. My mind is whirling. Silver is leaving. He knew he was leaving last night.

Sammy kisses the side of my head. “If you need anything, phone my parents.”

 “Alright.”

He trusts to leave them spins around. “I almost forgot, the paint is being delivered today, and I called in a few favors, and my brothers and the Qyult sisters are coming to help you paint.”

“No, Sammy, I said I wanted to do it.”

“But who doesn’t like some help.”

“Me. I didn’t want the help. I just wanted to paint myself. I can paint my goddam self!”
