I turn to the movie and snuggle closer to Silver’s side.
Silver runs his fingers through my hair, now being the distractor.
“Are you trying to distract me?”
“Maybe. Is it working?” he teases.
“You’re impossible.”
“But you love me anyway, right?”
My head whips up, and our eyes connect. There’s that word again.
Love.
His warm hand cups my face. “Elsie Thorpe, I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Those simple words are complex and easy. I want to tell him it’s complicated, and we’ll have to talk to Sammy. I want to confess my secret before we both admit our feelings. Snuggling with him now is a perfect moment I may never have again. Tomorrow will come soon enough.
“I love you, too, Silver Wilde.”
His soft lips graze mine before we turn back to the movie and enjoy the blissful contentment of each other’s company. I soak up every moment. The way I feel connected to him beyond words. I swear our souls touch in a magical way—a way I’ve never felt before.
It’s not long, and the movie credits roll. We find ourselves gazing at each other again.
Silver intertwines his fingers in mine. Our lips meet in a soft, gentle kiss. A warm rush of affection washes over me. He’s no longer my fuck-buddy. He’s my friend, my lover ... the man I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Electricity grows between us, and soon we’re wrapped up in each other. Our bodies press together as we explore each other’s lips and mouths.
The movie fades into the background, forgotten. All that remains is the warmth of the blankets, the glow of the TV, and the intense, all-consuming love we share. We’re lost in the pleasure of each other’s company.
When we finally break our embrace, we’re left breathless, panting and smiling like a bunch of teenagers making out.
He cups the side of my face. “That was a good movie, but I think you’re more interesting to watch.”
“When did you become corny?”
“Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?”
I smile as corny as his flattery. “No. You didn’t. But I’ll take the compliment.”
We share another soft, tender kiss. Our lips linger together.
“Sleep here with me. Just sleep. I can’t stay in my room another night knowing you’re so close, and I can’t wrap my arms around you.
“I’d love that, Silver.”
He gathers some pillows and blankets and makes the chaise section comfortable for both of us. as possible. We settle in together. I rest my head on his chest while he wraps his arms tightly around me. I drift too sleepy with his heartbeat against my ear. I never want this moment to end, and anticipation of what the morning might bring swirls in my dreams. While I dream about Silver wildly kissing me, I wake up to a white chihuahua licking my lips.
I groan. “Thumbelina.” But I don’t stop the erratic dog. Wilma and Faye’s dogs are known for barking, biting, and mounting things they shouldn’t.
Instead, I slap Silver awake.
“What the fuck?” he grumbles, half asleep. He picks the chihuahua in the air and looks at it. “Where the hell did you come from?”
At the foot of the chaise is a bouquet of balloons. My eyes travel through the room of pink and blue bouquets everywhere. Scattered between them are Wilma and Faye, the quilting circle, and the town council.
“It’s baby ultrasound day!” Confetti flies through the air.
