“It’s not fair to Silver.”
I bend down. My hands grip the side of the table. “You don’t know him like I know him. He’s just like dad. He would walk away and leave me a single mom.”
“You didn’t give him a chance to prove you wrong.”
“Because I’m not wrong.”
“You’re not right either. This decision is not right.”
“It’s not your decision to make.” I stand up. “Everyone keeps saying all the things I’ll have to sacrifice for this baby, and so far, not one suggestion has felt as right as the choice I made today. I put aside my future for a man who will love my baby and call it his own. Who will be there for birthdays and holidays and every other day of the year? Who wants to be there? I couldn’t ask for more.”
“You agreed so you wouldn’t be alone.”
“I supported your shotgun wedding, and until you can support my decision for my baby, don’t bother dropping by the ranch.” I stalk away, and parts of my heart break a little.
For as long as I can remember, Lena has been the one person there for me. For the good and the bad, but I won’t let her ruin the future happiness of my baby.
Heartburn blazes up my chest. I need cooling yogurt to douse the heat. Lucky for me, the party is beginning to thin. It doesn’t stop the lingering folks from trying to stop my quick beeline to the house.
“I’m just heading to the kitchen ‘cause I got heartburn,” I repeat, not stopping to chat with anyone. That doesn’t stop people from shouting their opinions.
“Natural remedies only!”
“Drink milk with honey!”
“Add a little ginger!”
“Munch on a handful of almonds!”
I want to yell at them that yogurt works just fucking fine, but my eyes land on Silver flirting with Lil’ Miss Cowgirl, and emotions tear through me as I’ve never experienced.

SILVER
––––––––
“HOWDY, COWBOY.” THEbrunette from earlier sashays in front of me. Her plaid shirt has a couple of extra buttons undone, dipping well into her deep cleavage.
My cock should spring out with anticipation.
It doesn’t.
I should be dragging her to one of the many private places I’ve amassed on my parent’s ranch to fuck her wild.
I don’t.
Nothing inside me desires to follow up on my promise to her. Not when I can’t get all of Sammy’s dumbass decisions out of my head.
“Not today.”
Not likely ever.
I stumble around her toward my brothers; all huddled under the old oak tree.
“Hey! Brother!” They all glance in my direction. “Twin brother,” I clarify.
Sammy shakes his head. “You’re drunk.”
