My wolf paws at me, and I glance at the clock.

 “Shit,” I hiss.

We’re going to be late if we don’t hurry.

Locking the front door behind me, I jog down the path toward town. The Alpha’s meeting is at City Hall, so I weave through downtown, taking a shortcut past the diner.

 Shortcut?my wolf snorts.

I ignore him, scanning the windows of the diner for any sign of Selena.I squash down my disappointment when I don’t see her or my sister.

The wind picks up, and I duck my head as dirt and leaves blow past me.

 That’s when I smell it.

 Mate,my wolf growls, sounding shocked.Mate!

Where?I ask, my head snapping up as I scan the street before me.

I scan the people milling around the town.Taking another deep breath, I try to pinpoint the origin of the scent.

The group of people to my left turns…and I spot her.

 Selena.

 Shit.

I freeze, wondering what to do.She’s with my sister, the two of them laughing, their heads close together. My eyes are glued to Selena. As if she senses my gaze on her, she looks up, and her pretty blue eyes meet mine.

She pauses, her smile faltering.I swear she knows what’s happening, knows that we’re fated mates.

 Bite her.Claim her!my wolf shouts.

 I swallow.We can’t.Penny…

Selena is our fated mate!he growls.

I shake my head.Penny is the only family we have left.We can’t break our promise.

 She’ll understand,he argues.

Maybe, but we need to talk to her first before we do anything with Selena.

My wolf is pissed, but I ignore him.I duck my head and turn, heading to City Hall.

But I don’t miss the disappointed look on Selena’s face, and it haunts me as I make my way to my meeting.

We need to fix this,I think.

 And fast,my wolf snarls.

 THREE

 Selena

“Which movie should we watch next?”Penny asks as the end credits of Clueless scroll.

“I’m not sure.I’m actually kind of tired, so I think I might head home.”
