Chainz

We cut the lights amile up the road, so they don’t see us coming and kill the engines a few yards away where the paved road meets gravel. I dismount my bike. “Crusher and Axel stay with the bikes and keep your eyes and ears open. Cobra and Fuel with me. No guns unless you have to, Raven is in there.” I order.

I pray to the biker gods she is, cause if she’s not I have no fucking idea where to find her. Fuel reaches for the blade tucked into his cut, while Cobra slips brass knuckles onto his hand. Cobra is the Club’s Enforcer and has a lifetime of martial arts training that makes his hands a deadly weapon. Still, I know he won’t hesitate to pull a blade or a gun if needed. I unwrap the chains from my handlebars, twisting the ends around my fists, and we trek into the woods like wild animals hunting our prey.

The gravel path fades into dirt under my feet, but I keep my sights on the cabin as darkness presses in on us the further we go. It’s quiet, all but the small sounds of rustling bushes and scurrying animals. I’ve never been this deep into the woods. The darkness is disorientating. One wrong step and my hasty plan falls apart before I can reach her. After a few more yards, the trees clear and we come up behind the old wooden cabin.

As desperate as I am to slay these fuckers and get Raven back, we can’t go in there halfcocked. It’s too quiet, and that’s not sitting right with me. I motion to the others to stop and we scrunch low and wait. Taking in our surroundings so we can get our bearings. The cabin is old and set up off the ground on cinder blocks. Boards are nailed to the windows, which reduces our entry points.

Our Enforcer leads the way. Fuel and I follow the line, inching closer to the front of the cabin. I’m ready to fight and reclaim what is mine. Cobra stops short before rounding the front. With our backs pressed to the wall, one of Adam’s men steps into our shadows. Cobra moves swiftly, wrapping his arm around the guy’s neck and twists with nothing more than a grunt escaping before the man falls lifeless in his arms. He drops his body and rolls it underneath the cabin, out of sight.

We push forward, closing in on the door. Cobra draws his gun, and I cringe with the fear of Raven taking a bullet meant for her captures, but we can’t go in unprepared. There could be more men inside and a rain of gunfire when we breach the door.

“Three, Two, One,” Cobra counts down and yanks open the door, pulling back quickly. Instead of being greeted by bullets, the interior is dark and still.

Standing back to back, we spread out across the room, circling in a coordinated motion while we sweep the room. The light is dim, making it hard to see, but the cabin is bare. Bare floors, bare walls and completely fucking empty. It’s not sitting right with me that there’s not a soul inside. Unease twists in my gut. This is too easy.

We clear the room and push further in, listening for any noise. All I need is one slight movement and I can pin these fuckers down. There’s no way she’s unguarded. I reach into my cut to retrieve a homemade flash bomb, courtesy of Axel and his chemistry lab. I pull the pin and roll it across the floor. Within seconds, a flash lights up the cabin and two bodies shuffle toward the rear. A rush of adrenaline shoots through me and I surge forward through the cloud of white smoke with Fuel fast on my heels.

I catch one and twist my cold steel chain around his neck, drawing it tight until it bites into his flesh and his blood spills out. His fingers claw at the chains, but there’s no give as I pull harder, slicing deep enough to sever his throat. His body convulses and twitches, and when the last shudder moves through him, I drop him to the floor. I unravel the chain from his neck, wiping the blood along the leg of my pants.

The second man gasps in fear and tries to run, but Fuel moves in behind him, stabbing his blade deep into his ribs. The man screams out as Fuel twists the blade, blood spilling onto his hands and dripping onto the floor.

Cobra draws near, mounting a tactical light to his pistol. I shift the bodies with my feet, to look at their faces under the light. The fire in my veins burns a little less with three of these fuckers dead, but I won’t be sated until it’s Adam bleeding at my feet.

“There’s a room at the end of the hall.” Fuel whispers, pointing the way. “If she’s here, that’s where she’ll be.”

Cobra pats my shoulder. “Go on, find your girl. We’ll clear the rest of the space and stand watch.”

I head down the dark hall, toward the door at the end. My stomach twists in knots when I spot Raven laying on the floor. She’s curled up in a ball, holding her side like she’s in pain. The lightning is bad, but I take in the shiner under her eye and the bruises and gash on her forehead. That mother fucker is going to pray for death when I get my hands on him. My emotions get the better of me when Raven trembles on the floor, not even acknowledging my presence. She’s in shock and probably concussed. Even in her current state, she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

I exhale deeply, scrubbing my hands down my face and let a low growl out to relieve my tension. I drape my chains around my neck and kneel down to collect the broken pieces of her bracelet. I may never know why it means so much to her, but it would break her heart to leave it behind. Slowly, I approach Raven. My girl’s in rough shape and I don’t want to frighten her more. I never want her scared of me. My arms will always be a safe haven for her.
