“I know you were here with Fuel last night. What the fuck happened to him?” He growls. His warm breath fanning across my face.

I force the words to come out of my lips, although I can’t be responsible for anything in this state. “You don’t know anything.”

“I know everything that happens in this town.” His smirk makes me come undone as easy as his scowl. There’s something about those lips and there’s seriously something warped in my brain, making my knees weak and my panties wet.

A devilish smirk pulls at my lips. “Everything but what went on here, right?”

My remark may be a mistake, but there’s no turning back now. I can’t allow him to think he has any power over me. Never again will a man control me.

“Stop the fucking shit, little girl. It’s time for you to fess up. I promise you won’t like me if I have to force the truth out of you.”

“I don’t like you now.” I inhale a deep breath. “Fine. I was here, but it’s not what you think. Fuel was alive when I left, and that’s my bracelet. Paige was someone who meant a lot to me. I came back here to find it.”

A thundering crash and smashing glass from the living room silences the lies falling from my lips. Chainz tucks my bracelet into the front pocket of his jeans and lunges into a frantic stampede toward the commotion. His MC brothers follow, forcing me to move along with them.

“Watch your step.” The biker shoving his way out of the room behind me warns as we reach the blood stain on the floor.

My stomach lunges as I take a giant step over the puddle of blood, knowing I have no other choice but to face what I did. I may not have been the one to pull the trigger, but the reason for his death lays with me. My heart slams against my chest as I take it all in, unable to make sense of what I’m seeing. Fuel’s body is not where it should be. Only blood.

Chainz leans forward, picking up a single brick from the floor. He gestures toward the broken window, drawing their guns. They storm the front door, ready to hunt down the person responsible.

Adam knows I’m here. I can’t take the chance he’ll find me again. Dodging across the kitchen, I run out the side door just as a black pickup truck speeds away.

I flatten myself against the side of the house and wait until I hear the rumble of the bikes taking off after him before making the run to my car. As I open the car door, I let out a sigh. I slide the key in and hurry to crank up the engine. Soon, the familiar purr of the motor drowns out the sound of the bikes fading in the distance. Even if the Krymson Destroyers catch him, he knows I’m here which only leaves one option. Get out of town fast.

A loud bang on the roof has my foot slamming on the brakes as Chainz yanks the passenger door open and jumps inside. “Get out of my car.” I scream at the top of my lungs, but he doesn’t listen.

“Not until you tell me who that was and what he wants with us.” I don’t have time to sit here and argue. I press my foot down on the accelerator and take off. If he won’t get out, he’s going along for the ride. I can ditch him further down the road.

“Start talking,” Chainz growls.

“He’s a cop,” my confession is a mere whisper I hope he can’t hear. “He doesn’t want you. He wants me.”
