Chapter 20

Ican feel the tensionin her when she finally takes my hand and slides onto the back of my bike where she belongs. She might not know it now, but this is going to fuck with her head eventually. I know her as much as I know myself and the guilt she’s battling with is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ll do anything it takes to help her come to terms with it, but I won’t let her deny she belongs with me. She always has.
I lower the kick stand and help her down from the bike. Before she can slip away, I pull her close. “I’m glad you’re here.”
Her eyes dart from mine to the women being helped down from the back of the van. “Me too.” Her eyes lower to the ground. “I need to be with them right now. Is that, ok?”
“Of course.” I let her slip out of my arms and take off. I instantly miss having her nestled beside me. I grumble under my breath at the loss of her warmth and stalk toward her. I’m acting like a psycho, but I can’t stand being this far away from her. Not even for a minute.
I slip in behind her and wrap my arms around her waist. She jumps at my touch and my heart slams against my chest. I have to remind myself that she’s been through a lot. She needs time to come to terms with everything that has happened. I just hope she doesn’t blame me for turning her life upside down.
“Let’s get inside.” I force the thought out of my mind. It’s not safe for them out in the open, even if the compound is secure.
“Where are we?” the woman, Dia, seems the closest to asks.
“Our clubhouse.” I drop my arms from around Dia’s waist so she can walk with the others. Dia reaches for my hand, and I grab hold. She doesn't need to ask twice for me to touch her.
“You’re staying right?” Dia asks.
“We live here. Anyone wants to get to you. They’ll have to go through us.” I reassure her. There’s no way in bloody hell anyone will ever get to her again.
She scoots closer to my side, tipping her head up to look at me, confusion in her eyes. “How did my car get here?”
I grin down at her as we walk by it, “I didn’t find you by accident Angel.”

Istay by Dia’s sidefor nearly an hour while Mercy gives the women checkups and tests for STD’s with the home kits she uses for the club. In an ideal world, these women would be in a hospital, but that’s not an option given the circumstances of their rescue. We can’t have the police involved. When the last woman is treated, Raven and Cat help them settle into an empty crash room, where they can shower and rest.
“You’ll stay with me.” I tell Dia. I don’t want to push her too fast, but I need her next to me.
“Ok.” She takes my hand and lets me lead her away from the others and to my room a few doors down the hall. I open the door and place my hand on the curve of her back, leading her inside. Her eyes scan my room. It must look like a dump compared to what she’s used to, but it has all I need. A bed big enough for two, a nightstand, a dresser and a chair.
She laughs softly when she notices the bag from her car sitting on the chair in the corner. “I see your confidence hasn’t changed.”
I smile at her and shrug. “There’s a bathroom through that door. Shower and get changed. I’ll be back soon.”
“Where are you going?”
I place a kiss on the tip of her nose, “There’s something I need to do downstairs and then I’ll come back.”
I don’t wait for a reply. I turn and head out the door. Closing it behind me. On the other side, I pause for a moment and swallow hard. She has no idea how badly I need to touch her. Taste her. Fuck her. Yet I stand here questioning everything. Not as confident as I appear. Is she done with Ben? How could she not be? Is she ready for me?
I stand there, my back pressed against the door until I hear water running. I push off the door and head downstairs. She needs some time to come to terms with her ordeal before I charge in there and claim her. Cause once I touch her, there’s no going back to the way things were. For either of us.
I spot Chainz sitting at the bar and Kayne next to him, with Poison on his lap. They're throwing back beers and talking like tonight was any old night. The Krymson Destroyers and the Savage Saints are no strangers to bullets. We’re One Percenters. Outlaws. Heros. Family. Tonight is monumental. We didn’t just come together to save four women from being sold into sex slavery. Tonight, they saved me from my past and self-destructive ways.
I clamp my hand down on Kayne’s shoulder, “Thanks for your help back there.”
Kayne nods, “Anytime. Sorry about Ben, but this fight isn’t over.”
“Speaking of that...” I look to Chainz. It is his call as our President after all. Chainz nods. “I promised you something to help take down Steam.”
Chainz pushes off his stool, “Come with me.”
Kayne motions to the rest of his crew and they all follow us out the kitchen door and into the shed. I pull back the trapdoor built into the floor and descend the staircase. When we reach the bottom, I flick on the overhead light. Lucas’s limp body, still chained to the pulley system overhead, lights up like a Christmas display.
