These past four weeks I’ve gotten close to Storm and Rayne. Not long after I got here, they confided in me they believed their fathers were murdered by Hawk and Digger. There was a disagreement in the direction the club would take regarding a contract that would make them a shit ton of money. The founding members wanted nothing to do with it but Hawk and Digger had promised the club's resources. Not long after, both Rayne and Storm’s fathers were killed. Hawk took the gavel, seating Digger by his side as VP and brought in new members aligned with their fucked up way of thinking. They single handedly destroyed everything the club was built on, stripped any resemblance of code or loyalty among the remaining brothers until they fell in line or turned in their patches.

Soon after, a few members of a local college sorority went missing. It was all speculation but Storm and Rayne had a hunch that Hawk and Digger were behind the disappearances. Their gut instincts are all they have to hold on to. They both have ascore to settle, it’s what drives them and if I can help with that I’ll gladly do it.

Rayne wraps her arms around my neck and I wrap mine tightly around her waist, lifting her up to me. The way her body feels pressed against mine ignites a fire deep inside of me. I don’t ever want to let her go. Rayne lowers her lips to my ear and whispers, “There’s no one else I’d want to have this bike.”

Her warm breath fans against my skin sending chills down my spine. I’m so fucking hard I can barely think. The moment comes to a crashing halt when Hawk emerges from the clubhouse, his gaze fixed on the bike. Hawk’s voice raises from the front stoop, drawing our eyes to him, “She’s a beaut, I’ll give ya that but our deal was you had to ride her.”

“I can ride her.” Hawk laughs at my confidence. Thankfully, Storm has put as much time into teaching me how to ride, as I have restoring this bike. Rayne never has to know I lied because as Hawk put it, my success is his.

“I’ll be the judge of that.” Hawk strolls toward us, his eyes filled with challenge, “Let's see if you can handle this bike, Prospect. From the gate to the end of the road and back.”

I lower Rayne to the ground and unravel my arms from around her. She places a soft kiss on my cheek. “You can do this. I know you can.”

Hawk stares me down, a malicious grin plastered on his face, “Let’s make this more interesting, Digger get your bike.”

I swallow hard, it’s just like Hawk to raise the stakes at the last minute. The other members of the club gather around, placing bets on my demise. Hawk forcefully draws Rayne close. His thick arms snake around her waist and he yanks her back up against his chest. Jealousy rears its ugly head. I hate the way my blood boils in my veins. She bites her tongue and looks down at her feet squirming uncomfortably. She’s always trying to spare me from seeing his possessive displays. I want to rip him off ofher but even if I tried, I’m no match for his size. I divert my eyes, unable to watch him marking his territory to get in my head. I have to keep my focus here, I can’t risk Hawk kicking me out on my ass now. I have to play it smart and bide my time.

Holding on to Rayne’s kiss like a good luck charm, I steer the bike towards the clubhouse gate. My heartbeat is thudding in my ears as Digger pulls up next to me. With a sly smirk on his face he revs his engine, “You better hope you don’t fall off that bike, boy. Better riders than you have bitten the dust on this road.”

This race means more than winning. It’s about survival. Hawk and Digger play dirty and he won’t go easy on me. With determination coursing through my veins, I swing my leg over the motorcycle. I clench my jaw and wrap my hand around the accelerator. The engine roars to life, the echo of battling engines fills the air.

“Are you man enough for this, Prospect?” Hawk taunts, his grip tight around Rayne.

It’s time to prove myself, to Hawk and everyone else, but especially to myself. I take one last look at Rayne, her deep blue eyes are locked on me. I shoot her a smile and drop the visor on my helmet. My fingers grip the handlebars with determination. A gunshot rips through the air. I rev the engine, and my bike kicks up, launching me forward. The dusty gravel road stretches out before us, winding through the barren landscape. Digger by my side, looming over me like a dark shadow.

I try to shake off the anger and jealousy that clouds my mind, but it isn't easy. Hawk's proximity to Rayne, her forced smile, it was all like a knife twisting in my gut. But I have to concentrate. Digger is neck and neck with me as we weave through the winding road, kicking up dust and gravel in our wake. The thrill of the race courses through my veins, pushing aside some of the distractions.

“Keep up, Prospect.” Digger’s taunt cuts through the engine's roar. I clench my teeth and focus on the road ahead. Digger is trying to get into my head, but I can’t afford to let him.

Digger edges his bike dangerously close to mine, forcing me to swerve away to avoid a collision. The gravel beneath my tires churn as I fight to regain control. In a desperate move, I accelerate, putting much needed distance between us. The raw power of the bike courses through me like a beast eager to be unleashed. For the first time ever, I feel alive. Like I was always meant to be on a bike. I lean into the corner, the vibrations under my palms and the subtle sway of the bike beneath me drives me forward. I clear the first stretch and accelerate back toward the clubhouse passing Digger as he moves into the turn. The rush of adrenaline is intoxicating, a mix of fear and exhilaration fueling my every move. I roll back the throttle and the engine's rumble deepens, a primal roar that matches my pounding heartbeat. The wind pushes against my body as the scenery blurs into streaks. I chase the horizon, a feeling of freedom coursing through me. I have never felt such a rush. I’m lost in the sensation when a sudden jolt knocks me off balance. My bike wobbles underneath me, the wheels kicking up gravel as I fight to keep it upright. I steady myself and look back over my shoulder at Digger. A malicious grin is plastered on his ugly mug as he inches closer trying to bump my rear wheel a second time in a calculated move to take me out.

With one final burst of speed, I surge ahead. I’m determined to win despite Digger's relentless tactics. This race is a battle not just of speed but of willpower and nerve. As the finish line comes into view, I throttle forward, pushing my bike to its limits. Digger gives it his all and pulls ahead. We cross the finish line neck and neck.

I screech to a halt at the clubhouse gates, my front wheel a mere millimeter behind his. Frustration overtakes me as I slideoff my bike. Tossing my helmet to the ground I rush Digger and throw a reckless swing. Digger laughs, his cold crackle slicing the heavy tension hanging in the air. With swift retaliation, Digger’s swing is fast and brutal, sending me crashing to the ground. I clutch my bleeding nose, a crimson stream trickling through my fingers.

“You might have survived this race, but I’d watch my back if I were you, Prospect.” Digger growls, towering over me flattened out on the ground. “Can we get rid of this pussy now, Pres?”

“No.” Rayne yells. Hawk grips her tighter, lifting her feet off the ground as she struggles against him, kicking and screaming. “That wasn’t the deal.”

The taste of iron fills my mouth. I spit out the blood, my heart sinking in my chest along with my nerves. I pushed it too far and let her down. The one thing I didn’t want to do. Now I’m gonna be out on my ass. Without her.

Chapter 4

Rayne

I exit my room and run smack into Hawk like a brick wall. He pushes me back against the door, not giving me an inch of space to move.

“Don’t think I forgot it was your birthday. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.” I gasp when Hawk drags his callused fingers up my inner thigh, slipping them under the leg of my shorts.

“Stop.” I cry. I fight against him with all my strength, but I’m pinned against the wall by the weight of his body and can’t break free. Tears sting my eyes as he slides my panties to the side and drags his fingers against me. I’ve never been touched like this before and I don’t want any of my firsts to be at Hawk’s mercy. A deep growl rises from his chest.

“I let your pussy ass boyfriend stay. Now, I own you.” Withdrawing his finger, he lowers his mouth to mine and draws my bottom lip between his teeth. The metallic tang of blood drips onto my tongue and my stomach churns. “So sweet andinnocent. We’re heading out on club business but when we get back, I’m going to destroy this virgin pussy.”

Hawk leaves me standing there with tears streaming down my cheeks. It’s only when he disappears down the hallway that I let out the breath I’m holding. I’m about to slip back into my room, where I can hide away from everyone when I hear Storm and Jase singing a horrendous off-key rendition of Happy Birthday. I haven’t heard them sound so lighthearted since they started prospecting for the club and I can’t take this moment away from them. Hiding my face from their view, I wipe the tears from my eyes and turn towards them with a huge fake smile plastered on my split lip. I've become a damn good actress the past few weeks and the thought turns my stomach.

“Happy Birthday.” Storm lifts me off my feet and swings me around in a circle.

Jase’s eyes narrow and he can see right through me. “What’s wrong?”
